Steering rack banging noise - HELP needed

Hi,

Just changed my TRE's and inners since the last trackday hoping it would cure the knock I had on corners. Ball joints are a year old and running poly bushed joints on wishbones and the ARB.

Suspension was refurbed last year with Fred. No movement there either.

Got the car jacked up at the moment with wheels attached. While shaking the steering wheel left to right and so on the knocking noise seems to be coming from the rack itself.

Do they wear down eventually? The steering rack bushes are still on the original ones since new as well. The knock sounds heavy even with the car in the air

Any ideas?

I'd be changing the rack bushes Daf. Quite a few peoples have started to wear.

get someone to hold the steering wheel and try again ,,,, should be slightly easier to locate the noise

Cheers guys, I had my sister in the car shacking the steering. It's definitely coming from the steering rack. I'll try the bushes. As I said it makes a loud bang even with the weight off. While driving the car the other night it was worse while going up steep hills for some reason.

What are the tell tale signs if the rack itself has gone?
