Steering Wheel 'Slippy'

  Add me 2 ur PS3 - Lylak
I took my 172 to the local immigrant car wash last night as they do a good job and recognise my car when it comes in, always pass comment at how shiney it looks when done etc. Plus you get a free air freshner! :star:

Normally they remember I don't want the dash spraying with there crappy aerosol, but one of the guys forgot and he went over my steering wheel too.

This means that the steering wheel has gone all shiney and slippery now, so how do I get it back to how it was?

This morning it wasn't as bad, but tbh it's not how it was. Will the shineyness wear away, or will I be forever doomed with a slippy steering wheel? Or is there something I can put on it to make it a bit grippy again?

I got the car washed at 5.30, got home (around the corner) and managed to SRP, seal with car lacker and wax with collinite 476S wax all just before it was too dark.

Shame it rained 2 hours later :dead:

Also, on a side note - as it rained last night, it appears to be sunny today, can I put another layer of wax on? Should I go over it with QD first to get rid of any dust / sand from the rain?

Steering wheel crap will just wear off. Dont think there's much you can do about that!

If your goiong to wax it again wash the car first as there will be contaminents from the rain etc and it will just seal them in

Never a good idea to wash your car with washing up liquid.
Contains salts that do your paint in over time and doesn't lube up the paint/sponge well enough and that = swirls.

The washing up is to clean the sh!te off the steering wheel dear chap . There was no mention of washing the paintwork with washing up liquid .

Read the OP's problem ;)

OK, cheers fellas.

I think I'll just QD then wax to be honest. I'll use a big microfibre to soak it all up with.

How many layers of wax should I do? :p

I would clean the steering wheel back to it's original state with some Meguiars APC.

I haven't got Meguiars APC, however I have got Flash multi-purpose that's a yellow liquid that we use to mop the floor with.

If I can use this, should I dilute it, or use it neat?

Not sure how you can wirte such a story with just one simple fault, Just wipe it over with some mild degreaser on a cloth jobs a good'un
