Steering Wheel

  182
New to forum, however just bought a 182 on 04 plate (60,000 miles). Great car and just put it through full belt change and service. Just some general questions on the car for the experienced clio owner

I know the issues of melting steering wheels but this one is not to bad (ONLY AT TOP). Is there anything to stop any further damage, apart from covering up in the warm sun?

Perhaps just the way the car drives but it seams twitchy. Is this expected due to the type of car it is?

The exhaust is ok and from renault, however will need replaced in time. I hear K-tec are cheaper replacements than main dealer (obviously) but is the quality good?

Also the car doesnt move from 10rpm whe idiling, however the engine sounds like its constanly fighting a stall. Just timming after the belt change? not so sure?

Thanks in advance.

they do have a lumpy idle its normal... i had my steering wheel re-trimmed for £119 ;)

when you mean twitchy,is that driven at speeds in a straight line, going round corners etc... ???

Welcome!

A retrimmed wheel is a must (although I just sold mine to replace it with an aftermarket one :))

K Tec exhausts get some good praise, as do the Milteck ones. Both are cheaper than Renault. They will make things louder though, so its worth bearing that in mind.

All Clios have lumpy idles. Its nothing to worry about but you can get a remap that will get rid of it. The remap wont really give you any more power but will smooth out the power curve.

There are a number of things that can cause twitchyness, let us know some details and I'm sure people will have some suggestions.

Edit: Just seen your update. I'd start by getting your alignment checked.

Thanks for swift replys. Did think about alignment will defo check this now. The car does pull slightly and have it booked into ren-tec in edinburgh next week, same garrage thqat did belts ans service.

In your expericince anything else to look out for. The car has FSH and mature owners.

Never driven anything like it. Smitten i think.

A twitchy rear end can be caused by rear shocks leaking. Check them for visble 'wetness' on the outside.

Ball joints at the front can develop play, just ask Ren Tec to check them when you take it in.

One more questions if i can?. The headlight washer works for the left side headlight but not for the right. Pump must work if delivering power to left. Both have the balls in them? any suggestions? thaks.
