Steering wobble

  Clio sport 172
Hi guys,
I have a problem with the steering and driver front wheel. I have read through the forum and found loads about steering wheel shaking at around 70mph, my problem is a bit more than that. It used to do that at 70 but in the last couple of days it got worse. At around 40 my car was violently shaking and a loud knocking noise was coming from the front drivers side wheel. When I slow down it doesn't get so bad and if I stop it goes away however if I accelerate again to 40 it may not do it and it will be fine, when I corner to the left a loud knocking comes from the front left wheel again but only when I corner with a bit of speed. Does anyone have Any ideas?

i would check you wheel bolts and make sure nothing is loose or go to a local garage for a check over

Yep as above - check wheel bolts, give it a good all round visual check in the front wheel / suspension area... I wouldn't drive it either until you have checked it out , it's not worth the risk .

Oh and jack your fronts up and check for movement and play in the suspension if there is nothing immediately obvious , my money would be on the wheel bolts though

When you jack your car up grab the tyre and rock top to bottom and then side to side as hard as you can... Should help you to identify if there is steering / suspension play

Possibly play in the rack bushes too, mine are shot and I'm having wobbles, also have VERY SLIGHT play in the ball joints too so you can imagine what my steering is like
