sticky dashboard

Why is my dashboard sticky? (No rude comments please)
It's a blue dash on a 2000 X plate 1.4 sport; and I've tried wiping it with all sorts of cleaners etc, but it just remains sticky (and the cloths come out blue with alcohol wipes too:rasp

I looked everywere with regards to sticky plastic on Renults, I had sticky door inserts (were the electric window switches sit, i've got a 172) I removed them from the door, removed the electrical switches and soaked the handle in hot water and fairy liquid for a couple of hours, wiped down with one of those sponges with a green scouerer on the back and they came up like new! Can't advice on the centre console as that's my next job.....

Their meant to be sticky, all clio's are like this. For example: You put your phone on there, with the surface being more grippy its less likely to slide accross when turning and fly out of one of your open windows. Pretty nifty I though

When I bought my car everything was sticky, f**king hated it. The garage must have put some cheap old dash cleaner on or something. Try cleaning it with an apc then use some decent dash trim (I use meguiars, it smells nice too)

Hmm, the 2 clio's have both had stickey dash tops, I assumed i was normal and renault coated them with something :rasp:

My phs1 172 top half of the dashboard is exactly the same....sticky as hell.....tried cleaning it with all sorts but remains the same....it's doing my head in,feels horrible to touch.

It's only the top half strangely.

Anyone else the same?

My ph1 dash doesn't seem sticky at all.

Just went out and had another inspection.....it's as if the plastic has melted......if i run my fingernail along the top it leaves a mark in it....interestingly the passenger airbag part isnt sticky i'm assuming its a different kind of plastic to the top half

Previous owner must have had a fettish for taking a full on load in his/her face.

Not cleaning up after, trying to avoid the dogging police.

I wouldn't rule it out.
