Stiff gear change, and gearstick movement when in gear

  RB FF 182
Hi guys,

Sometimes, when changing gear (mainly changing down i think) it's really hard to actually get in to gear. There is no grinding or anything. It is far worse when cold, and seems to be alright (ish) when warmed up, but still feels a little notchy.

I had the gearbox oil changed about a month ago but it didn't make any difference at all.

Also, when in gear you can move the gear stick side to side by about a centimeter each way. It does not budge under acceleration though.

Anything I can do to tighten it up and make it more smooth??

Does it sometimes struggle to get in 1st gear as if there is a brick wall stopping you from moving the gear stick

My old 1.2 did exactly that in first and second. I put up with it for 3 years and never bothered to find the cause lol.

What was it?

I've replaced engine mounts and powerflex dog bone. It didn't really help.

There's a gear linkage gaitor under the car which, on mine, is pretty Knackered. Gonna replace that see if it helps.

My linkage is very sloppy on mine, didn't really think there was anything you could do? Might be wrong, I no there's a kit you can buy that is supposed to help. Someone posted me the details the other day.

The thing is mine is harder to get into 1st and 2nd now than when i got it... hence why asked.

I noticed it after a gearbox oil change which is whats weird.

Mines about the same, I got my oil changed to see if it would help and it didn't (although I don't know if they actually changed it as it was a 'cash in hand jobby') lol!!

Isn't 75w80 the correct oil or something?

75w80 Fuchs sintolene - did it myself a few weeks ago. Maybe I'm only noticing it because I'm thinking about it after the change.
