While driving along, ill go over a bump and the speedo will die,

just return to zero, and the tripcounter stops counting up.

sometimes it will come back to life after 10 minutes, but most of the time it will stay dead.

slowing down to zero, and pulling away again usually makes it come back to life!

any suggestions as to the problem??
is it likely to be the speedo sensor??
and where is the speed sensor?? (on the gearbox im guessing, but where abouts?)

thanks

My speedo sensor is dying as well.

If you have an early 172, or a cup then it should be on the gearbox. Otherwise it's something to do with the abs.

The picture is the location of the sensor on my '02 172. There's a heat shield which I've removed btw.

It will be the speedo sensor as mentioned above, it's actually harder to see on a 1.2 8v than it is a 2.0 (lol) but it is in the same place.

To remove it you twist a quarter turn or similar, very easy to change and only about £25 from Renault.

If you want a hand and are ever over this side of the bridge, give me a shout.
