Stinky oil

I've just changed my gearbox oil and blimey it stinks - smells like gas. I was also lying down lots and just hope it hasn't gone in my hair and in my head. Should cure the dandruff! Anyone know why it smells like that? (It was gear 300, synthetic stuff by Motul, going for a blast later to see if it feels any different).

Think its due to all the additives in it.
Both the old stuff and the new oil smelt funny when I changed mine in the old car.

The bloke next who's garage is next to mine was welding something when I was filling up the gearbox. He was worried that he thought he could smell gas. Right stink it was.
