Anyway question i have...

My exhaust has a small amount of rust on it! ive sprayed it with plasticote 650oc paint and its come up like new really pleased with the results and its hasn’t flaked off once!! only thing is though around the lip of the exhaust (were its been welded theres a slight bit of corrosion - i rubbed it down and have used a rust remedy then sprayed the heat resistant paint (which brings it up like new) but it doesnt last very long! the rust just bubbles through in a few days! (i have read this is because it may have tiny holes in it (that you cant see) am i best to use a small amount of exhaust filler - will this stop the bubbling! If so what type? :S

And before anyone says i no exhaust rot from the inside out! but it looks 99% perfect and to good to change at the moment

any help would be much appreciated

Ive just had a reply from DW stating that i should try soapy water to see if i have any minor pin prick holes in my exhaust which may be causing the minor bubbles :)

i have two more suggestions - need to try Loctite rust remedy!! that stuffs pretty good! or a small amount of filler on the exhaust to stop the bubbles

Gota love the bubbles not :(

Good old fashioned waxoil is best (although not on exhausts). There is no need to worry about rust on a 182, the only parts that rust quite badly are the front hubs and the rear trailing axle, but this is after 5 years or so. It is a good idea trying to protect the standard exhaust on the outside but in truth they dont last long enough anyway. You can have the best rust proof product on the exhaust on the outside but the renault exhaust will start falling apart from the inside.

Still dont know what to do with this :( i keep rubbing it down and putting Kurust on it! (the rust then turns black - i flash it in! all looks perfect and in a matter of days it bubbles again! spoiling my loverly looking clean exhaust - paint hasnt flaked off or nothing! (the right box has stayed perfect) the left just has a small bubble around the lip of the exhaust pipe....any suggestions please??? getting fed up of rubbing it down most weeks!!!!!!!!!

Just dont want to go s/s just yet!!!

sand blast it and repaint it, can you actually see it? or is it just one of those "i know its there" things?

  2015 ST2(MO)/CorsaLE
hey fred!! sand blasting is an option but its a lot of hassel taking it off and putting it back on  just for such a small area! I know im a picky sod!! and you cant see it much at all! just that it spoils a great looking exhaust!! doesnt seem to be - it looks to be a little bit lower than the weld thats were it bubbles - i thought about filling it a little! just an idea ? :S

its actually on the left box but the angle of the right boxs shows the exhaust off better - this is where it bubbles!!

LOL...Purhaps i have been a little bit to gentle rubbing it down - it does how ever not bubble as much every time i do this! Just scared about how thin the metal is around that area!!

Thanks Fred ^^

It needs to be high temperature stuff, you can get sprays and paints for engines that will do. Halfords do a aluminium heat spray paint thats corrosion proof, might be worth a try.

My right box cleaned up ok - i think its the kurust reacting with the paint!! so should be fine with a better clean up!!!

thanks Rich! think kurust reacting with the hot paint...ill soon see if im right!

the right rusts quicker than the left :(
