storing an engine/box??

  Ph1 track 172
Ok so i dont plan on driving my valver for a year, after which, i wish to reshell it into a mk2

effectivley, the only thing i really wish to keep from the car.....is the engine and box!!

however, removing the engine and box will dump most of the fluid!!
my question is would it be ok to store the engine without water in it, and the box without oil in if for a year?? or would this ruin the engine??

thankyou!

be ok, just whip the plugs out and chuck a bit of oil down there and rotate the engine every now and then

As Fred said. Obviously make sure the anything that's open is taped over to stop dust/mice getting in, etc.

my worry was more the lack of water in the car!! if i spray some wd40 down the plugs every now and then and rotate the engine, you think this will stop the rings from seizing/rusting?

that ill do!!

how much? and will the oil not just sit there enevitably? or will it make its way into the sump?

on another note, i may just take the head off white its being stored, and give it a top end rebuild!

why is that dare i ask?? if i tape over the entire exposed section of the bottom end leaving just a small bit of oil in each cylinder would it not be ok??

i ask because i plan to get the head skimmed, all the valves re-seated and it may take me a while to do as ill be away from home for long periods!

Just a suggestion, keeps it sealed until you work on the head. It only takes 10min to take it off after all. You could remove it and wrap it though
