Strange 182 timing issue

Anyone have any idea what could be the problem here.

I've timed many of these engines up before with absolutely no problems but this one, it's confusing me.


Timing 182 engine up, I am using all the genuine tools on it , pin in crank at tdc (confirmed with screwdriver in cylinder 1 ) time it up horse shoe in end, torqued to spec ect turn it over and horse shoe won't fit back in it's miles out again... Can't get my head around it. Never had this sorta issue before.

Done it so many time and never faced this .. so any ideas let me know.

Using all genuine parts , new belt kit and new dephaser.

Taken all the slack out of the belt before tightening the pulleys I'm guessing?

I've tried that I just do it how I've always done it which has always been fine ..

I did look at that but seemed ok?

Problem fixed. NEW tenioner at fault.
