Strange grinding noise

Coming(I think) from passenger side of the front end, it's not overly loud but when stationary and revving it gets more noticeable as the revs get higher. What could this be?! I did try to make a video of the sound but my phone doesn't pick it up very well over my engine noise!

Hard to say without seeing/hearing but i suspect clutch/DMF. With the engine running try pressing the clutch pedal slightly and hold it for a few seconds. Noise gone? If so its possibly the slave cylinder but if not try pressing it all the way... does the noise go?

Clutch was changed about 2k ago, along with a gearbox refurb. Im pretty sure the noise is the same regardless of whether the clutch is pressed or not, but i will double check when I get to my car later on! Thanks for the reply Mick

For some reason i thought he had a 197... sorry, brain farted. I would still try the pedal test to rule out thrust bearing noise.

I tried pressing the clutch but it makes no difference to the noise, still get more noticeable as the revs get higher!

The gearbox has just been refurbished though? Could it still be fecked? how could I tell if it's the driveshaft? Thanks for the replies as well

Jack car up

Take off passenger side wheel.

You'll need to drain your gearbox oil.

Undo the driveshaft nut, 30mm

Take off two 21mm nut/bolts that hold hub to shock

Undo 3 13mm bolts holding driveshaft gaiter onto the gearbox

Then try and wangle out, may need a little tap, but don't directly hit the end of the driveshaft.

When out you should have 3 bearings on the gearbox end, these can sometimes explode and go everywhere causing grinding noises

It may not be that at all but there isn't much that would cause a noise similiar to what you describe

Thanks DannyR, I'll get the driveshaft out on my next day off and see if there's any obvious damage. How much would a replacement cost? It's been making the noise for a while, but as my gearbox was whining I couldn't hear it until about 2 months ago. is it one day going to break all together and not work?

If one of the bearings have come off it will more than likely shag your gearbox, but if it done it before I'd hope the garage would of seen it damaged?
