Strange knocking noise between 30&50mph

  182

Its started within the last couple of weeks it seems to go in time with the wheels if you know what i mean??

What i suspect is that it is a wheel bearing , but i have already had these replaced just over a year ago thing is when they were replaced the first time they made a whine/droning noise where as this noise is completely different.

The best way to describe it is a woop woop woop woop woop woop noise the faster the wheels goes the the faster the noise goes??? Sound strange?

Also is worse when turning right and quitens when turning left although you can still hear it.

What else could it be if it aint the wheel bearing?

And if you reckon it is the wheel bearing why is it completely different noise to what i had the before (droning)??

Any help, advice would be most appreciated the car will be in autotrader on thursday so need to get it sorted asap!

Cheers

Rob.

Its not so much the clicking noise you get when a cv joint has gone its constantly rumbling/ knocking even when im going in a straight line but slightly worse when i turn right and slightly quiter when i turn left there is no droning which i would associate with a wheel bearing....??

get under the car, grab either end of each sahft and give it a good shaking.

rumbling/knocking (especially when turning) indicates strongly its 1 of ur CV joints

The DSs even when perfect nick have a small amount fo play that you can mistake for failure of a joint.

Wobble the wheel first to check bearings, you can wobble the NS DS from inside the engine compartment, but OS youll need to get under the car.

Bearings can fail fast if not replaced properly, i had some go after 4K.

I had one today do this, it turned out to be a balance weight that had come loose on the rim.

Probably a faulty driveshaft.

a driveshaft failure(cv joint) noise should change with the steering angle and would be most noticable on full lock.inspect your driveshaft gaitors to see if theyve leaked any grease so pointing out the driveshaft that is most likely the faulty one(cv joint damaged due to lack of grease/lubrication).checking the joints for play wont nes point out the faulty joint as most shafts/joints have a slight bit of play in them anyway.
