Strange smell

Since a few months I have a strange smell in my 182. It smells a little bit as it just had a small service with oilchange. You can also compare it with a 15 year old car that didn't drive for a year.
Can it be linked to an enormous oil loss/consumption ?

Have they changed the cabin air filter? Thats cna be a problem.

Massive oil loss could be a number of things did the garage use a new sump washer as they leak if you don't.

Also if you have a problem with your coil pack , a park plug breaking down .there's not enough power going through the cat will give a horrible smell too .

but you'll notice the car being underpowered 1st

On the cabin filter on mine it smells when i have had climate control on cold and when i put it on warm it steams up and smells damp. This is because my car is due a service and it needs changing. With what you say it sounds like it.

Sounds like you have mould in your aircon system, you can buy an anti mould spray to get rid of it.

I hope its my decat that makes the car smell like an old car - mine also drinks oil, but then my drives to work tend to be the B road route wherever possible, so it gets driven pretty hard, i guess using lots of oil is to be expected.

What do you deam as a lot it shoulnd't though.

Check the top cam gasget most likly its leaking.

in about 5,000 miles its gone from halfway up the dipstick to near minimum, but ive done those 5,000 miles in probably just under 2 months.. no idea if thats normal or not..

It does seem to weep a little from the top cam gasket, but I have been told its fairly common and not a real issue (im not talking lots of oil, you can just see small amounts around the bolts) would tightening them up solve that issue? scared of over tightening thats all..

I read some where that the engine can use a 1tr of oil to a 1K miles and this is normal. So yours is fine i guess.

Thats nothing that about half liter in 5k .Renautl say 1 liter per 600 miles is the limit for them to fix it but realy anything over say 1 liter per 5k is nothing realy.

Your milage isn't huge though there are cars do loads more.

They have a probelm wth the cam seal yep there rubsih and its such a long job to do its rarly done. Plus if your not loosing much its no problem.

I'd not recoment messing with the bolts it can fix it but its an ali head so over tigtheing can realy be trouble.
