Stripped screw head on thermostat :(

  Valver
Anything I can do to get the screw off? Never going to get a pair of mole grips in there and the screw head is pretty stripped :(

  Trophy
Drill or file/grind the head, then remove the rest of the bolts followed by the stat housing, you will then be able to get some grips on the remaining screw.

Mat.

Yeah sounds like a plan, dont think id get a drill in there though, its the bottom left screw right near the air box! Not even sure about a file!

If you can get a dremel or similar in tehre and cut a slot accross teh head and use a slotted screw driver.

Hammer a smaller socket over teh head if you can.

Machine mart sell reverse glute sockets designed to grip a rounded off nut (or i this case rounded head bolt) and undo it

you dont have much luck do you mate?? reminds me of my days doing work on my car..

and still actually
nothing ever goes right when i try.

thats what i did with mine, in fact it was me who gave Lunner that method, i had 2 fucked bolts and it worked with 1 of em, the other it didnt so i just cut the cut off it completely

the stat housing is quite thick so u have loads of thread left wen u take it off, and you can then get mole grips in it, or cut a slot in it as i did

new bolts are very cheap from Renault and will probably come as a normal hex head bolt, mine did

oh and you NEED to take the airbox off to get proper access, doesnt take a minute though

Lol no I think the last muppet who worked on the car went round with a torque gun on maximum setting and did up all the bolts!

Then to top it off the radiator bleed valve was on so tight I had to get mole grips on it, then it oh so nicely snapped off onto the grips :(
