Stripping for Fuel Efficiency

I used to get 22mpg from my 172, this week I have driven properly driving in fith doing 30. Im now gettin 26.3mpg.

Although my petrol bar has gone down just a much lol, I've done 85 miles so far and its just above the half way point, is that good? I normally see 200miles a tank.

Might want to get that 3 speed gearbox swapped for a 5

Quite stupid people saying 'your car should be getting way more mpg than that.. it must be broken'

Although it can obviously achieve more than 35 mpg, it doesn't mean it's broken. Maybe he uses full throttle up to 3000 rpm, maybe he encounters a lot of traffic lights on his particular route. There are plenty of things that could alter his MPG without meaning the car is broken.

No I don't use full throttle up to 3000rpm.

It's city driving for about 12/60 and there is two roundabouts on the way there, but most of it is straight 60mph with a couple of small inclines and declines. Small engines don't like anything over 50mph tbh.

Also when I say city it's not traffic jammed by the time I get home it's straight through to my house.

Magic, something can't be right there. If as you say you're driving it as economical a possible, then something isn't right with your car. I never dropped bellow 30mpg when adding motorway runs with my 1.4 between 4-5.5k rpm for most of the motorway once or twice a month.

I always thought my car had issues, as 33mpg was the most I ever got, but really didn't take that much effort to get to 40+ like I said before. I average 30-33mpg in my 172, it gets a lot of abuse, I hit 6k+ revs everyday, but in between taking it easy really averages it out.

I live in Beckenham, Kent.

I did see 31mpg at the beginning of the week though, soon went down hill, I drive through alot of traffic aswell.

ive had a few stripped cars and i have noticed the difference. but i find that if you go fully stripped leaving just the seat and dash nothing else you have to rag the car to get your enjoyment if you get what i mean. my next car is going to be fully stripped and will be used to do 30miles daily. i really dont mind not having a radio/music in the car just as long as the cars as raw as can be then it puts a smile on my face listening to every bang and the exhaust notes :D

  Better than yours. C*nt.
Double-edged sword. You take weight out, your car uses less fuel getting up to speed, but then you've reduced inertia so the car uses more fuel maintaining a steady speed.

Fill it to the gunnels (50l/11g tank)

Then how ever many miles you have done since fill up.

Easy.

i used to get 30-35 on a run in my 1.2, but since i got the 172, i can get up to 40+ mpg on a run and 34 round town, but noticed it after i got it tuned, thats with the wife and kid in the back, plus spare ect.

as i found when i had the 1.2 going down to fcs from the nw, with da in his 182, he used £50 there and back on a 570 mile round trip, i used £70 there and back. go figure:S

so i suppose what im saying is that stripping it out is next to worthless, changing the way you drive works far far better.
