Stupid oil question!

  RIP Dan

OK, after these noises ie a slight grind when i change from 2nd to 3rd on my willy 1, i was told to change/top up my gearbox oil and that may cure it....how do i do it? how do i level check? is it easy to do, what kind of oil and how much ie quantity not price...i have searched the forums but nothing on willy. Also i think i need a haynes  is there s specific willy one to get or will any clio manual do?

not sure of any willy specific haynes....

anyway. TO drain the box get under it, youll see a plastic cover over the selector linkage, take that off. UNder it is the drain plug for the box....drain if you wish as you only need under 4 ltrs to fill it up and new oil wont go amiss and might solve your problems if your lucky.

put the plug back in.

Airbox off and on the front of the gearbox youll see a white plastic wingnut typ plug (probably black now with dirt). It can be abit of a b*****d to get out and you cna use pliers with a cloth over it to gain some leverage.....plug out, funnel and pipe into the hole (car must be on level ground) and fill it up till the oil jsut starts to come back out the hole.

Job done.

tranself 75w80 is what you want, from ren.
