Stupid question

Ok, this may sound like a stupid question, but.....

...each car has a certain bite point on the clutch. Now in terms of changing gear most cars you can change gear by only depressing the clutch pedal a small distance (say 1/8th to 1/4 of the total pedal movement), which is advantageous for a quick gear change. Question is, is there a mechanical disadvantage to doing this? ie, will it damage the car / clutch in any way? Should you depress the clutch further for any reason?

Cheers

once its disengauged you can change, no probs, no worries.

But most racing drivers will use the full travel of the clutch to make sure.

if you dont judge it right than the clutch would still be partially engaged(clutch drag) this would create excessive wear of the gearbox synchros as they will trying to slow the input shaft down and the clutch drag would prevent this.you would still change gear but it could create excessive wear of the synchros.best to press the pedal down fully.
