Stupid shock absorber question

Hi guys i have a set of used shocks sitting in my garage, question is i pushed the rod down and they dont come back up, is that normal?? Vinny

eerr my shocks stay down? do you mean the dampers? with no springs on?

yeah i mean i have a set of dampers/shocks and i just pressed the rod down with the palm of my hand with no springs and they dont come back up, theres no sign of leakage or anything

It's the springs that hold the car up, all the dampers do is stop your car going like a pogo stick when you hit a bump lol. Thats why you can't push them down/pull them back up fast.

cool ok so if its knackered then i presure you could push them down and pull them up quick then
