Is there anyway of conecting the amp to run the sub from the exsisting standard Clio 98 RSI headunit, i havnt taken the head unit out yet but i wondered do i have to buy a new head unit to run and amp from it,
u dont need a new headunit, i done the same thing in my corsa! i bought an adapter which converts the rear speaker cables into RCA but ur best off buying a 4ch amp coz u wont av ne rear speakers otherwise!
HMMMM, THAT COULD BE A PROB, HOW WOULD I TURN THE AMP ON IF THERES NO REMOTE WIRE, WHERE IN ESSEX R YA CASUE I AM IN ESSEX ASWELL, AND HOW MUCH U WANNA SELL YA DAPTER FOR
Or you could buy an amp with high level input which takes a spearker level input rather than an RCA input. To wire the amp you connect the ground and power as usual, then on the back of the head unit do the following:
With a multimeter or circuit tester, find the wire that gives a signal (12v) when the key is turned (engine does not need to be running), but gives no signal when the key is at the off position, this is your remote wire. Splice into this with the supplied remote wire and connect it to the amp.
Find your speaker wire. I used the rear speakers. There is a set of 8 wires in the other block next to the power cable (from the previous step). They are LEFT REAR, RIGHT REAR, LEFT FRONT and RIGHT FRONT. There are 8 wires because there is a positive and negative for each channel. On saying that you are going to use the rear speakers, you need to splice into LEFT REAR + and RIGHT REAR - so that you get the bass from both channels merged into 1.
Does that all make sense? Id be happy to explain it in more detail if need be.
I did this on my first Clio (2000) and it sounded really nice.
WELL I HAVE THE AMP ALREADY AND IT DONT HAVE A HIGH LEVEL INPUT (I DOUBT) BUT I WILL GET BACK TO YOU IF I NEED MORE INSTRUCTIONS, I MIGHT HAVE THAT BOX OFF U MATE LET U KNOW, IF N E BODY ELSE HAS N E OTHER IDEAS LET US KOW CHEERS
yer i aint doubting that, i am still interested, would probably b the best bet, so loosing the back speakers dunno if thatll b a huge problem, might have to meet up wiv you soon essex lad cause i got my sub and amp sitting at home out of my old car ready to go in, fiver dont sound to harsh,
yer thats rite mate , na i turned me bk speakers off when i was in it earlier and the sound changed, sounded pretty wierd,i aint layed me wires yet got any ideas , so r u saying i shouldnt run the RCA cable to the head unit , have you got any tips for laying the wires through my clio
well if ya using the rear speaker cables then there already there, jus need to put the power cable and remote cable through to the front!
the power is best down the passenger side coz theres a gromet in the passenger footwell and the remote should go down the other side! jus need to find a 12V wire somewhere have a look in the haynes manual or jus think really hard!
Im also trying to wire up an amp to the original HU of my 2001 Clio 2. The trouble is I couldnt find any obvious way of getting any power.
I know straight from the battery is the best answer but I dont want to drill a hole from the bonnet unless I absolutely have to. I thought of the boot light but couldnt find the switch to stop it going off when you close the boot (I think its built into the lock). I looked at the cigarette lighter socket but the wiring going to it was a bit too thin for my liking.
