Sub + amp

I don't really know much about these so I'm kindly asking for your advice. :)

I'm after buying an amp + sub for my Clio, so I have a few questions. I have a budget of about £300 for the lot.

1. I've heard that you can get amps which provide a high amount of bass similar to a sub would and still do their job of increasing the volume, is this true? If so what type of amp would I need to buy?

2. If I got a 3000w sub would I need a 3000w amp too? What would be the minimum?

3. Would I be able to get and install JUST the amp and sub without getting new speakers for the doors etc. in my Clio?

4. Is it better with one 3000w sub built into a box or two smaller ones that equal around the same amount of wattage built into one box?

5. Does the wiring kit wattage have to match both the sub and amp watt levels, or can it be under/over?

All advice is welcomed and greatly appreciated. :)

1. Dont understand ur question pal lol.

2. No u wouldnt ud probs need about a 1500 watt amp. Ull never get full power out of a sub anyway so an amp of half the power is reccommended.

3. Depends how loud u like ur music, if ur gonna have it blastin ul probs end up blowin the standards but if its set up right on ur hu it shoudl be ok.

4. Depends how much room u wanna waste in the boot mate, if u buy the subs with the proper boxes then it doesnt matter cause the boxes will be made to the right size.

5. Wiring kit should be slightly above the wattage of ur amp to make sure u get the best results to the amp. e.g. iv got an 800 watt amp running off a 1000 amp wiring kit, a 1500 watt amp would be best wit a 2000 watt wiring kit.

Hope this helps a bit mate. But one thing u must make sure u dont do is ask these kind of questions at Halfords cause ull end up being sold a fusion sub or Fli s**t lol. Avoid them at any cost. Id reccomend vibe stuff to be honest, had previous experience of the vibe subs and their minters.

1. don't understand

2. you can run any speaker of any amp regardless of power output but don't expect the most out of the speaker unless it's getting close to it's maximum RMS power.

3. if your going to get a sub and amp then i'd recommend at least a new head unit and speakers.

4. i'd say you will be better of buying one decent sub and amp rather than two subs and an amp to try and run them both.

5. now buying a wiring kit based on it's wattage rating is just wrong because different class amps will pull different amounts of current at the same output power

now i wouldn't buy a vibe one as i've seen they advertise the power rating the sub can handle and not the output power of the amp bolted to the side

Thanks for the advice, yeah that's why I'm asking here just so I have a basic understanding so I don't get ripped off. :)

I'd go with a vibe sub (one with the amp on it) had one before, good sound & very punchy.

Thanks I'll look into those, what model was yours?

Again thanks for the reply.

By question 1 I meant 'I've been told that a sub isn't needed sometimes because there are certain amps which provide the same amount of bass as a sub, is this true'?

I'll probably end up getting both anyway. :)

I had a 10" one, the amp was on the side of it (I think they've updated them now though & moved the amp to the top of the box)

Halfrauds sell them, but you can get them cheaper online I think.

- Re question 1, an amp doesn't provide bass by itself. I guess whoever told you that was talking about you amping up your speakers to give you more bass.
