sub box question

  E87 118i

was thinking of making a ne box for my 10". I ideally would want to make a thin box running down the left side of the boot, say 8" wide, running the depth of the boot , with the sub facing to the right (picture it ??)

now, do you think it would be prone to falling over, becuse the width would be less than the height ??

Not if you strap it or bolt it down.

Wouldnt go making your own box though as it will seriously impair the performance

Theres plenty of information on the net about building your own box and the dimensions you can use for your sub dependent on power, size, Q factor etc. If your good with your hands theres no reason why you couldnt make a box better than the sh*t they sell in Halfords....

Thinking about it, i had a 12" in a ported box that wasnt much more than 10" at the bottom and 5" at the top

I have my own box, that I made myself, not very difficult, even mad it that it matches the angle of the back seat and the plastic bit at the back of the boot.

just wanted to maybe try somethig diiferent and save some space by making it narrow, rather than a square type.

I made my own box, looks better than a halfords box and fits the car great.

Your sub should come with instuctions on what minimum cubic cm your box should be. Failing that you can do a search in tinternet which should give you dimensions for different sized subs (i.e. mines a 10" sub and needed something like 30cm² for it to work efficiently).

Mine is also tied in, otherwise it would bounce round my boot every corner. Although tieing it down will stop yours from falling over you need to remember that there should be a certain amount of space from the back of the speaker to the inside-back of your sub box.

Nice box mate. I shouldve fitted a grill to mine cos I have almost punctured my sub a number of times by chucking stuff in the boot.
