Sub upgrade or swap opinions

Got an alpine mrd300 amplifier putting out 150w rms at 4ohms and 300w rms at 2ohms. Im currently powering a 125w rms jl audio 12w0 sub. Im thinking about getting another of the same sub, or getting a 12w3v2 and wiring it in 2ohms mode. What would people recommend, or what other subs would you consider?

i would go for the 12w3-v2 D4 sub, cos thatll run the amp into 2ohms giving you full power into the sub, which will rock....Youve heard the w0, the w3 is twice as good....

yer the w3 is always dvc, and is avalible in dual 2 or dual 4. i would say the w3 as it will not only be louder but be better quality

Yeah hydeho, the d4 in the product code represents dual 4ohm, and rorrie is right, all w3s are dual voice coil subs....BANGIN !!!!!!!!!!!

but a 15w6 V1 (could pick one up for about £125) these are LOUD and great sq, i had one for about month, in a large ported box and it moved air, giving only about 400-500 rms it was hard to breath! - but i coudnt get into the boot build i had!!


also they can go in small sealed enclosures!!!!



but another thing - they are dual 6 - so only go wire it at 3ohms - go might not get enough power from your amp, would run it well, but wouldnt be crazy

Any idea where I could get a 15w6 v1 from Rorrie?

Ive seen a 15w3 d2, so that would be wired to run 4ohms (which is not enough) or 1ohms. Does anybody know if an mrd-m300 is 1ohms stable because there is no data about it on the alpine site.

MRD-M300 is only 2 ohm stable.....

A 15w3 will need at least a 2 cubic foot box for it to sound right, n u aint gonna get that into a clio boot unless you ditch the back seats.......

A 15w6 v1 is no longer available as it was faded out when the w3 came out. There is now the new w6 subs, n they are available as a 10w6, 12w6 and a 13w6, this one being 13.5" sub.....cool, but need bout 500w rms for the 12 and a bit more for the 13.5". Alpine amp will run the w3 fantastic and will run a w6-v2 but not as well as the sub would want it too.......

yes but you can buy a second hand w6v1, they pop up fairly freq, and they are brilliant subs - much better than the v2, IMO the v2 doesnt stand upto its looks, a w3v2 would run well off the power you have, and the wiring is more suitable, but there are many other options bar JL, what is your budjet

Oh, and Id love a crystal sub bambam but dont wanna spend that much on a sub, plus my amp isnt powerful enough. Any other suggestions?

Has the Directed 312 got DVC?
Would you recommend all of those over a W3v2?

without having the spec sheet for the directed sub, i couldnt say for certain, but IIRC they come with either a single 4ohm or single 8ohm voice coil

but as stated, couldnt be certain without the sheet

of the 4 listed, id rate the DLS W312 and the Directed 312 on a par with the w3v2, the other two are slightly over shadowed by a overally better sub in the jl

a different sub that is a dvc and is under £200 that will be worth looking at is the Diamond Audio CM3-12, id rate this sub far better than all the others already listed in this topic

Ive dealt with all the subs mentioned, and above all IMHO the JL would be the better buy. Youve got a w0 so you know what they can do, all im saying is the w3 is twice as good so your gonna get a hell of a lot more bass and the quality is amazing........good luck in choosing......

For that you could pick up a second hand crystal comp 12 (im running one at the moment!) i think i know someone selling one, il check! and IMO they are one of the ultimate SQL subs! i love mine, and i would defo prefere a used comp12 to a new w3v2 any day of the week
