Sump gasket!!

Hi all I'm going to change my sump gasket on my 172
I've just picked it up and noticed it's a rubber one
would you dry fit or use some kind of sealent as well?
The reason I'm changing it is that it's been weeping
for a while and I'm due an oil change lets see if Silko
is any better than Mobil 1..

Just dry fit the gasket, but be prepered to drop the subframe to get the sump out.

As above, I think with a bit of jiggling about you can get away with doing it without touching the subframe (from memory).

When refitting the sump, tighten all the bolts to 8NM, then tighten them to approx 13NM in the correct order working out from the middle rear. See below

Nope, It's either drop the frame, or raise the engine a bit! Curse to do! Is the weeping bad?

Yep I remember you telling me this before I did mine! And it was an absolute ballocks to do! Hahaha! He'll have fun doing it!

The weepings not to bad it just makes the underside look
a bit rough wet oil hear there and everywere. But it's oil
change time and I've put it off for long enough O and my
wife say's I'm a bit OCD don't no what she means though?????

Done it I didn't find it to bad as long as you lift the engine
high enough on the O/S. I found it easier to remove the slam
panel to allow the engine to be lifted high enough then the
sump pan just dropped out no messing around with wiggling
hear or there. Just my two pence if it helps????
