S2 I still like but would rather a clean S1.

S2 IIRC was only ever sold in Europe as an RS, elsewhere it didn't make it as an RS and was simple sold as a 1.6 turbo.

They don't handle as well as a 172, they are so so so much slower, they don't ride as nicely.
So while I like the 1600i I certainly wouldn't swap the 172 for it tbh.

Doubt I'll ever own one as so many cars higher in the list.

Still cool though.


Mk1 escort I might do though at some point, possibly yb powered as although they are boat anchors and a bit crap in modern terms I just like them a lot and have a lot of experience of building and mapping them etc so would make a natural choice.

I have no interest in it being that good. A trophy is better than my Frp, a Golf Gti is better than a Mk1 Focus RS. The former will never tingle my balls like a Blue Oval will. It's the whole experience of it. You should know that.

My interest in cars is mainly in throwing them around a track, performance/handling is a massive part of enjoying a car to me, I dont enjoy cars just by looking at them, they need to actually have some substance to them as well. I like the RS1600i a lot because it drives well, especially in the context of a car of that era, but like I said I wouldnt want to swap the 172 for one as it drives even better. Having an RS1600i instead would just mean that I enjoyed every trackday I did slightly less TBH

Must be, I have a big involvement in the ford scene but Im not blinkered to them enough to think that a car is made better by having a ford badge on it. Im just a total petrolhead who judges every car on its own merits in a very objective way generally. I dont like renault as a brand overall for example, but I love the clio still despite its renault badge for the simple reason its an excellent car.

Does seem a bit weird that someone so obsessed with fords not clios would think that a good place to spend his time was on a clio forum rather than a ford one.
If you enjoy fords so much surely a ford forum is a more appropriate place for you.

TBH, if I had the money, I would have an S1 instead, but they just command too much money for what, essentially, is the same car.

It's the whole reason I bought the Frp over a Trophy, no monetary reasons, no insurance reasons, no running cost reasons, simply the fact it excited me, every drive feels special.

Depends what you mean by special I guess mate, if you want to basque in the history and rarity of it rather than the actual drive then im sure you'll enjoy a rs1600i more than a 172. In terms of actually getting around a quick in a fast and composed way though the 172 feels more special in that respect.

I'm not biased and my opinion is far from skewed, maybe you haven't seen a lot of my posts in other marques. I don't recommend Ford's very often actually.

Infact I think I told a guy recently to buy an R26 over an FRS because I didn't actually think he got the whole "RS" thing.

Ignis recommended alongside a ZS in a recent warm watch thread. I love other cars. I'm a massive car fan it just so happens I love Ford. It doesn't make me biased.

Never been on Passion Ford TBH. The RS forum I use is super awesome. No sigs, and very tidy. Tidier than CS even. I only really use it for car info though, as it's a lot quieter than here, and there's no Tom.

TBH Ive got to know more people well from PF than any other forum Im on, the social events have been pretty epic too, its a very social site and got far more proper petrol heads than any other site I can think of too.
Also being a ford forum you get far more opportunities to meet up with people in real life easily than on here as there are so many more ford shows.
