Sunroof opens but doesn't close

My sunroof will open with ease as much as I want it to open but it wont close for ages, tried the close switch for over 20mins till it finally closed. Happens everytime I open, any idea what the problem is?

Probably the relay or control module.

When it wont close, can you hear the motor trying to close it,

And when it does close, is is smooth, or slow and laboured. ?

No noise, its almost like the button isn't connected to anything.

When it works, it closes smooth and quickly just like normal.

Are relay or control modules cheap and and easily changeable? Guessing it'll be where the sunroof control are?

Sounds like the fault is electrical rather than mechanical then.

Start with the switch, check the connections are tight. I think there is also another connector block a few inches from the switch. Some models also have a relay close to the motor.

Pull the trim cover off and look at the connections on the motor. Its not unheard of for the roof to leak and the terminals to rust or corrode as a result.

The relays are at the back of the fuse box, so its on your back upside down in the passenger foot well with a torch, and make sure they are tight in their holders.

Thanks Brian! Will check all of that out this weekend. I've never had a leaking sunroof on my mk1 or mk2, but suppose if its a very small leak, it could have just had enough droplets. Will have a good look and let you know how I got on. Cheers
