Supercharge my ph1 rs

  secret
Hi guys, had my rs around a month now and the plan is to charge it next year but i dnt have a clue where to start, i built a NA valver track car this year so all good with nasp but not boost.

Has anybody done this that can give me some pointers?

I am not sure if i wana atemp this myself without help as ive neva worked on a f4r engine so is there anyone who will do this for me?

  None :(
If i was you, i'd be looking in the RS tuning section!!!

Then i'd be giving them a call after reading :)

Before you supercharge it, have a look into how many people have had it done, then sold the cars not long after. Although there has been no public airing as to why, I would suspect there has to be a reason for it. Personally, I wouldnt touch a 1*2 thats been charged.

^^^ thats what i had been thinkin.. if its been done properly with forged internals etc then i wouldnt mind but bolt on kits are askin for trouble imo

Hmm ive always wanted a supercharger, im not goin for a quick low boost thing tho, will all be done properly

then sell the ph1 and buy a Mini Cooper S Works GP and have a more modern car thats meant to be supercharged out the box for the same money as a ph1 + supercharger done right.

I used to love racing the minis :) i like cars that stand out and are diffrent so to do something like a charger on a nasp engine in more what i want than standard stuff.

I aim for decent power with this ph1 so will keep u all up to date with a project thread. Will start one in next few days

Right lets quash the rumour's about why supercharging kits have failed recently.

As everyone knows the F4R engine uses a free floating cambelt and pulley assembly, now whilst everyone knows the camshafts pulleys are free floating very few people realise that the crank pulley is also free floating.

Now when Renault designed this system the took into consideration that there would be a water pump, alternator, power steering pump and air con pump as such they deemed it an acceptable design and signed it off.

What they didn't expect was some group of nutters ten years down the line to start bolting whopping supercharger kits to them, and running them of this crank pully that is only held on with torque and friction. As such the extra rotational torque placed on the pulley has caused a number to slip causing some nasty valve piston contact.

However all is not lost, the F4R crank has a keyway built into it now whilst the F4R pully doesnt have a key the F4RT pulley found in the megane does, as such it has become a compulsory part of the SC conversion. This has erradicated the issue completely.

As a safety precaution I have one fitted to my car, a bit OTT but better safe than sorry :)

I still think the SC kit is a very cost ffective way to get 250bhp without opening the engine, however I think a low pressure turbo could achieve similar results if spec'd correctly.

Same for MG ZR's that have been turbo converted. Not sure why, just seems to be the done thing :/
