Supercharger !

I have found I company in Slowenia which would install a supercharger to my 172. The man said that I must take
a Mercedez supercharger!
If anybody have some advice if I must take a intercooler or not? He said that is not nesessery, but I know that with intercooler I can get much more HP?

Can you tell me if is there any need to fit intercooler or not?

THANK YOU

DEJAN

GMC Motorsport based in scotland can fit a Rotrex supercharger to most applications. I was quoted roughly £25000 + vat about a year and a helf ago.

Incidentally, where exactly would the supercharger go? Theres no blummin room in the 172 engine bay from what Ive heard.

I dont know how much they want to do that!
They tell me that there is enought free space to install a supercharger.
Can you tell me if I need a intercooler to?

AN INTERCOOLER WILL GIVE you more power overall. But it will give the charger a similar form of lag as the air being forced in has to travel further through the pipes and intercooler. up to you really.....but if you do, make the piping as short as possible.

I dont know for sure, but they said that I can get 250+ HP ! Only thing is that I must get a supercharger from mercedes 230K!

I would have thought 250 bhp would be possible with a blower. Id like to know where exactly theyre gonna put it though?

I think there would be adequate room along the front of the engine, where the resonator cast alloy thing is, above the oil filter.
Get the belt happening off the alternator, or A/C belt, and have the air intake come from the normal air box area, through the S/C and straight in as normal.
There is no real need for an intercooler on a S/C car, as the only heat is generated by compression of the air, nothing to do with exhaust gases.

Thats the big advantage of the S/C.

Could you imagine trying to fit a turbo behind the engine?? EEKKK!!

I would imagine 250 is very easily possible without any mods, maybe a thicker head gasket to reduce compression.

Its on my to do list!!

Cheers

If you want to run anything more that 4-5 psi without blowing the engine to pieces then you will need an intercooler or chargecooler, otherwise the charge temprature will be far too hot and you will just get really bad detonation when ever you put your foot down.

Also, you will not get any lag at all from a supercharger, with or without an intercooler fitted.

So basically, if you want to run say 10psi (get you to about 260bhp) you will need some form of inlet cooling.

this is where you could use water injection....to avoid an intercooler....to prevent detonation, not more power.

Ben, Thats true, forgot to mention that. That would probably be suitable for the boost that would be used. Cant run too much on the standard compression pistons.

Well!

It should be finished in a few weeks. I say finished, I mean the engine, then its put the interior back in!

Had a bit of a set back when I blew one of the turbos on my Supra.!

Barry - make sure you let me know once its done, Ive got to see what the mean machine is like. Plus Ive never seen a turbo plumbed into an F7P engine before so itll be good to see how everything fits.

Craggy - As Im now working part time with a tuning company called Grey Devil Industries (R5 turbo specialists), we will be looking into eventually selling the conversion for the F7P and F7R engines, then later on, also the 172.

Kits will be sold in low or high boost applications.

Ill be keeping everyone here informed of how its all going so just keep an eye out.

Also, we will be taking the Clio turbo out to a few cruises to show it off, but again Ill keep you all posted as to where and when.
