Supercharging my clio!

I want to supercharge my clio...is there anyone who has done it themselves, ie, bought all the bits seperate??? im after building it myself and not spending 4000 on a kit!
 
Both RStuning and KTR(GDI) developed and designed there own brackets and i dont really see them wanting to sell them separately.

Also i can not really see you saving a great deal of cash doing it yourself, because of having to get the brackets designed and manufactured the charger its self is alot of money.
Then you will still have to pay for custom mapping.

The RStuning kit is very good and they have had 3/4 cars running it for a decent length of time now.

Not sure how many KTR cars are running.
 
The bracket would be the least of your worries imo
Although there are supercharger kits for gti6s that cost 700 quid with a rotrex charger.
 
by the time you have get everything, fitted it and then paid someone to map it you might as well have paid rs/ktec to do it.
 
The rstuning price is bang on and Paul doesn't make a lot from it once you realise the labour gone into it. The bracket will be your hardest bet as the company that make for Paul, are very hard to get hold off, he had to give me his bracket due to this. Cheapest I found full charger kit with oil cooler and oil is 1800 odd so 2k for custom alloy radiator, boost hoses, injectors, mapping and fitting it's virtually the price your do it for yourself, so save your self the hassle and give it to Paul!

Angelworks developed the brackets, RS tuning and K-tec use the same Angelworks developed brackets
 
You could do anything cheaper by sourcing everything yourself, afterall companies have to make money BUT it'll take you ages and you'll have to pay retail for eveything, rather than trade + abit from one of the companies. You could always go 2nd hand for the charger and IC though.

Braket wise, a decent fab firm would make you something very easily, depends how clever you are on the design and packaging of it though to make it work.

Mapping Paul would do as standard dyno time I'd of thought!

I thought that GDI developed there own, or that was the sales pitch we were given at Autosport last year.

I knew the RStuning ones were done through/with angelworks.
 
TBH having spent a lot of time with these kind of things I would get a bracket made by an engineer, it's not expensive and these ally ones (imo) are too brittle and not braced correctly to handle the vibration. Other issue is where they are being mounted.
Get the bracket, buy the rest of the bits and take it to Wayne Schofiled to map.
 
Yup all brackets have failed so far, well one part of them anyway, its not a big issue though, just shite design!
 
But you cant just walk up to an engineering company and ask for a Clio supercharger barcket, you need to work out exactly how big it needs to be, the right angles and strength, bolt holes etc etc
 
They will also need the supercharger, car, possibly old air con unit and won't turn it around in a day!
 
I like the idea od a Turbo'd or Supercharged Clio, but I don't like the idea of the price. I am not saying that companies overcharge for the kits (don't really care if they are or aren't, what I think won't change their price either way).

I added circa 100bhp to my last car (with the potential for a fair bit more) for less than 1k (prob about £800-£900), that was mainly because I did everything myself and found a decent priced donor car.

That conversion was easy because it was just basically an engine swap with some re-wiring, it's a shame there aren't any higher powered engines that would bolt into the Clio in the same way.

There are if you buy a 1.2 clio and put a 2.0L in it :o

thats interesting! how long was it before they started to fail and how many kits have been sold after the first failure.

Good point :approve:. I meant starting with 'reasonable' (I started with circa 130bhp, which was reasonable IMO) power though. :D.

More things to change if you start with a 1.2 though, the rear drums to discs would be something to do as well as (possibly) larger wheels for the brakes, but it wouuld still be hard to get a 'cheap' RS Clio and use the parts to make a 1.2 into a 2.0 for <£1k.

Still, there's not a lot of point as it'd be easier to just buy a 172 etc, just the same as it would have been easier for me to keep the GSR in one piece, but that's not always as much fun.

I think out of the 4-5 first ones (Me, Ben, KungFu, Pauls) have all had a tiny bit snap off one of the brackets that holds the inlet side of it.
 
The brackets should not be snapping in the first place. Probably due to poor/non existent medium term testing.

I disagree with that entirely, it is a big issue as the issue should not be there in the first place. That said these things happen, so as long as steps are taken to resolve the problem it all works out in the end.
 
Out of I interest..

Realisticly How much does it cost for a complete charger kit? Including upgrading all the other parts like clutch etc.. All together what are we looking at!? 5k?

Yes its a problem its broken, but not a problem with the running of it

None AFAIK, they all done it at virtually the same time, Ben's had broke whilst mine was being fitted, but I ended up having Pauls which had been on a fair while and had been ok, Paul I think now runs a revised version.

4k is cheap really.

I got quoted 6k plus for a zetec turbo conversion for my Escort pushing 300bhp

Tuning for any car is always expensive once you pass a certain level, no car is ''cheap''
