Swap rear wheels for fronts Safe

Ok, its time that my fronts stopped wearing and my backs to go down as when i replace the types id like to get all 4 done the same as I wont be buying the contisports. Also, as Im going on another trackday soon i thought it would be a good idea to swap fronts and rears so that the rears wear down more to even them up (if I dont my fronts will be on the limit after the trackday and need replaceing)

Is this a good idea?

Can you jack the car up so that I can remove both wheels at the same time or do I have to use the spare as a buffer?

I wouldnt.. mainly because I like to have a rear end which grips well.. only needs it snap away and its gone.. at least with good tread on the back theres less risk of it going.

I did wonder about losing grip at the rear but I dont want to replace them when they is good tread but dont fancy toyos on front and contis on rear.

When i go to get new tyres i normally get the rear ones moved to the front and then new one put on the back. This was suggested to me by a tyre shop i know. The rears will last for ages and eventually deteriorate and pop, by rotating them i will always have tyre in good nick.

As for swapping the fronts to the rear, i spose it depends how worn they are, it may set the balance out a little.

One thing you should always remember with new tyres is wear them in gently, the grip wont be all that good until you have done about 50 miles on them. I got 2 mates in hospital at the mo because they went hammering it on new tyres.

Hmm, I thought I could even up the wear by swapping them so that when I do put new tyres on I would replace all four as im not sure what the effect of contis on the front and toyos on the back would be like.

I swapped my wheels front to rear at 8000 miles and changed all 4 at 16000 miles when all 4 tyres where evenly worn. Didnt notice any detrimental effects by doing this. I did this because I didnt want to have 2 makes of tyres with one set older than the other on the car. I did this using the spare as a buffer.

I swopped mine at 13k.

I just used the normal kack on the front and a hydrolic one at the same time on the rear.

The grip at the back now is useless.

Ur probably best leaving them till there useless and then swop them round and replace the rears.

Honestly you will be suprised at how different the car is when u swop the tyres round. If your thinking about go on the track u will have to slow down more or risk loosing it.

Im sure Stig or someone on Top Gear .... or was it on Sky ... cant remember. Ended up that the best tyres should be on the back of a FWD car.

you can make the rears slide very easy on partially more worn tyres, but its not a major issue.

Hmm, so should I swap them and leave the worn ones on the back - im sensing a big NO for this.

Do I swap them and put new Contis on the rear?
Do I swap them and put new Toyos on the rear?

Do I put new ones on the fronts? (Contis or Toyos)

Do I put 4 new Toyos on the car?

Part of me thinks its best to have all same tyres all around?

Right, Ill swap them - give em a good clean when they are off. Gives me a month to see what they are like before the trackday, I guess it would be fun loosing the backend at bedford :)
