Swapping over the Lambda sensors?

Car  Impreza Wagon
Can both lamda sensors simply be swapped over to try and solve a EML/poor MPG issue? I'm thinking of ideas before I end up splashing out on two new sensors....

Some people say the cable length is different but mine were the same so could swap mine around no probs.

the front ones on a 172 and 182 are different, the rear is the same (or near enough) as one of the front ones. They all very close in length and interchangeable anyway

Thanks guys, I'll see if it makes any difference. I pressume it's best to replace with OEM sensors if needs be?

So its possible to fit the shorter post cat lambda to the pre cat position?? Reason im asking is it will save me £30 buying a post cat rather than a precat
