especially if they are contis.. you have to drive easy all the time on them.. i lost the back end going round a corner at about 2mph on some wet cobbles.. now i know that cobbles are not renowned for their grip but i was only going about 20mph..luckily i counter steerd it.

I have now replaced the fronts with toyos and plan to do the same with the remaining contis.. all I need is a nice weekend so I can swap the fronts for backs.

mine also lasted just over 9k (well the front ones) so I know you aint been taking it easy.. heh

LOL, but Im not that hard on them - Mon - Friday I poodle along to work at 40mph/50mph. At the weekend, ok, I let the car fly, but I dont wheelspin, I dont drift round corners or r/abouts...just the usual amount of safe fun. But then I guess the engines quite heavy and that probably has a bearing on tyre wear?

Anyway, new rubber next weekend (alarming confession time - getting new tyres always excites me. i love it!)

Cost cutting tip:

Im not sure if its the same for you 172 boys but my spare has the same tyre as normal so ill only be buying the one tyre.

my spare isnt in my car.. a wieght saving exercise..

but yes when one of my tyres got too low I swapped it for my spare until the toyos arrived.

Scudetto, my greatest skill was going around roundabouts on contis without making it drift. Oh someone said recently that the f1s were crap.. cant remember who it was though.. do a search.

BenR said they were crap on his 16v. I recently bought some and at first they seemed to transform my car into a complete boat. The rear end has more body roll and the car felt disconnected from the tires. I was very distressed having spent £209 on 4 new Goodyear Eagle F1s. Now, theyve done a fair few miles, and seem to be getting a LOT better, in that i dont notice the flex that they initially gave, and maybe theyre hardening up. I certainly was impressed with them on the fronts (ive had michelins, bridgestones, and now on my second set of good years on the front- they are pretty impressive) But ive only just replaced the rear michelins with these goodyear eagles. Theyve taken some getting used to, and i think theyre getting better. Maybe i need to do a few handbrakers or !20 mph drifts?

On a serious note (C#), i think theyre getting better and they seem to have LOTS of grip. Ive noticed the mailto:cr@p">cr@p in my boot moving around more than usual. I havent managed to lurch my back end out like i normally did with the michelins- probably needs more persuading. Ill test it and report back....

Simon, thank you for that; thats pretty interesting.

I had G/year Eagle Venturas (which preceeded the F1, I think) on my Golf - I just kept buying them all the time as they were so good in the wet, and very good in the dry so I was pretty set on sticking with what I thought i knew and could trust when it came to replacing the Contis.

I appreciate your insight on how the G/years behave on the Clio.
