My friends just been connected to talktalk....Ive installed plugged the router in setup all the username and password but cant seem to connect at all...I didnt bother with the setup cd just typed in the the routers IP.

the LAN's working between the router and PC perfect but the WAN is the problem....when i go to the router status it tells me under status 'STARTUP HANDSHAKE'

does anyone have any ideas what that means at all?

could it be its not been connected yet ?

Any ideas guys?

Thanks

my dad has problems with talk talk at the moment, it was working until friday and then just kept saying connecting on the router.

We left it a couple of days as a message on their phone system said people in the midlands were having problems and they were trying to sort it.

Still nothing by tuesday so my dad rang them and they said the line is fine, he took the router back to pcworld who said it was faulty and exchanged it (it wasn't faulty, they guy didn't know what he was talking about) but the new one does the same thing, just keeps saying connecting.

Talktalk are being about as useful as a chocolate teapot in the desert, they keep saying the line is fine but it isn't, its blatantly their problem and nothing our end.

I have always said they are s**t and thats why i pay for BT, they are great but my dad is losing his patience, he has only been with then 2 weeks and its broken after a week!

Yeah ive read on a few forums people having nightmares with talktalk.

Are you using the Talktalk router they supply?

She was connected on the 30th but still nothing yet.

Not sure what Startup handshake means though which is bugging me

my dads just called me and hes been on the phone to them pretty much for the last 2 days and finally seems to be going somewhere, hes spoken to several people now and has finally got through to a person in england and they admit that its 99% their fault and have passed it on to openreach to sort out within 72 hrs as they say they think its a problem with the exchange, i have been saying this for a week now but finally someone agrees.

It seems you just have to keep on to them until they pass you up the line.

sounds like BT havent done there bit with regards to attaching your line to the LLU

i was at the network in irlam last friday as i work for Opal and i had my doubts with regards to the quality of our network/equipment and that but its not the case at all we have the most advanced s**t in the country and the capabilty of doing all sorts the main problems people have with talk talk is a provisioning issue and normally BT that havnt done their bit correctly or evan at all.

The main thing that lets talk talk down is the customer service!!!!!!!!

i lost my BT last night, tried everything, was on the phone to bt loads (as unlike TT they actually seemed to be doing their stuff and called me back loads on my mobile, great service)

then tonight they told me there wasn't a fault on the line so i tried my bt home hub instead to see if that worked (normally using a dlink router) and it worked.

COnnected everything up to it wirelessly, even the bt broadband internet phone, all works great apart from my flatmate whos computer connects to it but he can't access any web pages, no idea what the problem is as I have 2 laptops, my ps3 and 360 attached with no problems.

Looks like my dlink router is knackered though
