Tappets

Just a quickie guys , i have been speaking to Gunner off here and he has helped me a lot , thanks mate.

When i start my car up it makes a tapping noise and when i go faster the tapping gets faster. Is this the tappets?

Plus my oil is under half so maybe this needs to be toped up too. I have been told not to use the stuff you put into the oil cap to thinner it "Addditve" or something like that as my car has done over 80k miles.

Any advise would be apreciated :)

it would be tappy if the oil is under half. fill it up and keep it between 3/4 and full and it should be fine.

if that does not cure it, we can supply a Forte top end treatment that might sort them out short term..

other than that you need a new set or lifters (tappets) really

Whats a Forte top end treatment?

And what does it do. Because mine is starting to p*ss me off now. it doesnt tapp all the time just now and again.

How much is it?

FORTE is the best additive on the market, its usually only available to trade... to use at service time etc etc

its about £10-£15 for a bottle.

We should be getting a load in as you guys are not the only ones with this problem and dont want to spend £200 + on new lifters...

Reduce and prevent lacquer, varnish and sludge formation.
Prevent and eliminate noisy hydraulic valve lifter operation.
Maintain and improve variable valve timing system cleanliness.
Free sticking oil pressure control systems.
Remove deposits from valve stems and piston rings.
Reduce valve train wear.

Technical developments in engine design have made significant improvements increasing engine power output and lowering emissions. Extended service intervals however, can contribute to excessive contaminant build up, compromising valve train operation.

FORTÉ Top End Treatment is designed to combat contamination, improve and maintain oil system and valve train cleanliness.

FORTÉ Top End Treatment is compatible with oils that meet the specification of API and ACEA classification.

we use forte at work. we had a spider once where the owner didnt use it that often and everytime he did the tappets rattled for 10 mins whilst they refilled with oil. it wasnt the cars fault as it was left stood for long periods of time. we put some forte oil additive in it and it improved the problem no end.

the Forte Gas treatment is highly regarded by garages in my area, and from the customers who use them an then come in my shop seein if we do it cheaper

Well if your getting a big batch in would you sell it to some of us or have you got some i can buy now, The problem is worse if the car has been sitting for a couple of days.

If this will help then i will definately be interested.

Cheers Ian

my car also makes a slight tapping noise when i start it, and when its running

its a 1.2 (the D7E diet engine) and it sounds like a diesel

the 1.2 d7f engine has normal adjustable tappets not hydraulic so the oil additive wont do a thing.

Ive got this tappety noise on my 62,000 mile Williams. Is it worth worrying about? I actually quite like the noise - sounds like a "real" engine in action!

Ill no doubt have a full re-build at some stage as I can see just from the oil filler than theres a lot of carbon deposits on the head, but is there a pressing reason to have the tappets seen to?

Where can I get this Forte stuff?

Cheers

This Forte stuff sounds good!!

My 33,000 mile Williams engine makes the "tappety" noise aswell - only notice it in the summer when the windows down.

All the cars ive owned have had the same noise at start up.

FORTE stuff is harsh, but good.

Fuel additives, especialyl diesel....ergh lol!

Ben, you could get forte from jsut about any decent sized garage.

The F7 engine makes alot of tappy noises so to the average ear it all sounds rather similar. If a tappet goes it goes, its no major engine killer.
