taxing a car with temp insurance

  Clio 172 cup
I've just bought a 172 cup, and cancelled the insurance on my current car to pay for the insurance on this.

But...i forgot to renew the tax on the old car before i cancelled the insurance, stupid i know but it just slipped my mind.

Can you tax a car with temporary insurance?

Every place i have read on line says that it is not possible.

The alternatives seems stupid

1. declare it SORN and then nobody can drive it when they come to look at it and will need to trailer it away. this is not a good opition.

2.take out a year policy, tax it, then cancel the policy. again this seems stupid and will end up costing me a fortune no doubt.

Anybody have any advice for me?

Add it as a temporary second car to your new policy. Explain to the insurance company that you're selling it. :)
