Temp guage not working then cut out

I was driving to work this morning and the temperature guage wasnt working, then it started to fluctuate. I stopped at some light then went to set off and the car cut out and wouldn't start, it did start after about 30 seconds and i drove it to work with the temp guage fine.

I have had it on the diagnostics and it shows no faults, water is fine, oil is fine etc

Any ideas?
