Mine does the same, doesn't sound as bad as yours though, mine only get to about 1-2 notches underhalfway, and if i roll downhil the temp goes down.

Thermostat is quite common thing i think gonna change mine when it warms up.

o right cheap r they and where they located can i see it in bay ?

i am about to change mine when i do my coolant, paid 17 quid for mine from a local motor factors. follow your top radiator hose back to the block and it will lead you to the thermostat housing

if you already know what coolant is in there ( if you have changed it before) then just top up, if not aamamdandand its due a change i would drop the lot and flush through with water and refill with some type d stuff ( Renault or from Renault parts direct ) its about 15 quid pre mixed

I'd say it was just the uber cold weather... Mine was running smack in the middle until the middle of last week when its been 1-2 notches lower, and even lower than that when at 60-70mph.

Our MK4 astra would actually show the damn thing was stone cold wen on the motorway lol

Leave your thermostat alone, it's the cold weather keeping the gauge half way up, as long as your heater is getting hot then everything is ok. Back in the old days we used to change the thermostat to a winter version so the engine warmed up quicker, but now with modern engines this is not necessary.

Have the same problem. Mine warms up and might hit the middle but will soon go down. keeps going up and down but never overheating, strange!

now whethers warmed up still doesnt read half temp as it should must be faulty any one ?
Then it will need changing, easy to do. Test the old one in a saucepan of water, should open just before the water boils, about 90deg. C.
