Temp sensor or thermostat?

Noticed three things today

My temp gauge goes up to about a quarter
Instant fuel consumption seems a tad higher (on the computer)
And the car seems just slighly less sprightly

So I think temp sensor or thermostat?

take the thermostat out and see if it is stuck open.

a working one shouldnt open up until the water is hot,

More then likely the thermostat i found when the temp sensor was faulty the temperature gauge would go up and down constantly.

not too much, have some spare though.

use a genuine thermostat, they seem to fit in the housing more snug

Changed the 'stat today...new one was slightly smaller than the old one (not small enough to be bypassed)
So I just fitted it...no leaks and the temp comes up to normal again.
Anybody have the partnumber for the 'stst just to make sure?
