Temporary Insurance

I need to drive an additional car for a few days, as far as im aware there is no policy out on it. Im too young for the likes of day insure but is it possible to add it to my fully comp policy for a few days? Im with Admiral unfortunatly.

Google it. There are loads of companies that do this. I think Norwich Union do it for £8 a day. It is expensive.

Most insurers will allow you to add an additional car temporarily to your existing insurance. If it is someone elses car, you usually need to be added to their policy temporarily.

The usual minimum i believe is 28 days.

My nan drives a 1.6 focus AUTO, my BF was going to go on insurance for 1 month. He's 22 4yrs NCB, No Cons etc.. they wanted something like £400!

Every company is diff. some do it some dont. Some charge the earth some dont. I do believe u have to go on the owner's policy, rather than put the car onto yours.

Suppose it depends where your car is at the time. I added a garages car to my policy for the day whilst mine was in for warranty work.

I ve bought a car, now i don't know if there is a policy out on it or not, i imagine not. I just need to get it home, do you reckon I could transfer my insurance over for the day?

if u phone ur insurance company tell them when ur plannin on pickin the car up they can transfer ur insurance from old car to new at that time.

Or u could get a family member / friend over 25 with fully comp insurance to drive it home for u, as majority of peeps over 25 fully comp are covered to drive any vehicle, 3rd party only. (best check with company tho)

Think that would only work if the vehicle is insured by someone in the first place.

The vehicle comes up as being insured on the vehicle data base, I don't really want to transfer my Lupo insurance over completely as im not intending on keeping this car its coming off the road as soon as I get it home and i ve no intention of driving it again.
Hmm i could get my old man to drive it but its some distance and he probably wouldnt want to!

Alex, your current insurers will usually insure it as a temporary additional vehicle for a small fee. Depends on the company but many let you do this from 1 to 30 days at a time. I used to have Direct Line, when I was trading to my clio from my old car, there was a 2 day delay and they reinsured my C2 as a TAV for 2 days for £5.25.

Do not get someone to use their own "driving other cars" cover, it needs to be insured seperately by the owner (now you, not the last owner) for this to be valid (though there are some dubious tales to the contrary for some companies floating about.)

how old are you AlexS

20

Unfortunaly those are all 21+ otherwise that would be ideal.

Yeah I just spoke to Admiral and it appears you can't have two policys out on one vehicle, as obviously the current owner is still insured on it.
I guess I will have to get them to cancel it and see if i can insure it as a temporary additional vehicle..
