Test drive in 182, oh so slow??!!

Sunday, I went and looked at a FF 182 in the local dealers. It's up for £9495 and it's a 2004 '04' with 26k, both cup packs, in Titanium.

I couldn't test drive it, as there was only 1 salesman in, so I went back yesterday.

Well. First impressions. The seatbelts were filthy and the steering wheel was scratched to f**k. There were also chips at the front, and kerbing to one of the wheels. I'd want a MINT car for that money.

On the road, you could feel the stiffer cup suspension, compared to mine, and it seemed to hold the road slightly better. However, it felt sooooo slow. I'm not joking!! I'm not sure whether it was because the exhaust note was quite a bit quieter than mine (and mines standard), and it was all in the head, or whether this one hadn't been broken in yet, but when I got back in mine, it felt like a rocket ship!!!

Is this the case with all 182's? Mine's on 43k, this one 26k.

All I can say, is it didn't help my decision to sell up for a 182! :S

All RS clios are about the same performance wise, they all get to 60 in around 7 seconds and they all have about the same power. If it really felt that slow there must be something wrong with it.

Well this is what I thought, that it should feel the same.

It was quieter (engine noise and exhaust noise), mine sounds much more throaty, so I was wondering whether it was physicalogical (sp), but when I got back in mine there was noticabally more pull. Maybe it was faulty?

I have heard from people about the engines getting faster, the more miles they do, so I wondering about that.

Handling wise though, it was spot on. Felt better than mine.

well when we bought our 182 it seemed good at 1st but since me n ma gf give it a good drive it goes a lot better now and ours is at 25k now

  Clio 182
doesn't sound right, my mate has a 172 cup, I have a 182FF, whenever we go out for drives there is really nothing in it (and thats with a boot full of work stuff)

mine is a bit less snappy with 95 petrol in, so that might have had something to do with it? wouldnt go as far to say it made the car feel "oh so slow" though!

There was still the 5k kick there, but up until that it felt like a 1.2.

But it could have quite easily been as quick as my car, and because it was so quiet just not seemed it. I think I need to try another before I make up my mind.

If there's something in the back of your mind telling you the cars not right i'd walk away and look around for another tbh . There's plenty out there . I know the seatbelts can get a bit grubby being silver but you'd think the dealer would have at least had a go at getting them clean . If i went to look at a car in a shabby condition i wouldn't entertain it or the dealership .

No, it shouldn't. But when I floor it in mine 1st and 2nd, it pins me back, and torque steers a little bit, and this one just kinda....well....accelerated like miss daisy lol.

I will arrange a drive in another one somewhen I think. They should be pretty much identical in performance shouldn't they.

I just wanted to check that nobody else had experienced similar. The 182 felt more refined than my car, so it's hard to tell unless they are side by side.

£9500 ! You could get a Trophy for that money (probably).

Wouldn't pay £9500 for it. They said I could have it for £8800, but I told them I wouldn't pay over £8200 for it. That's still pricey, but it would come with a warranty, so it's worth a little more in my eyes.

Indeed, must have been bust! All Clios are almost identical, from 172 to Trophy. Walk away.

  182 Cup
Thats a shocking price for an 04, mine is December 04, it had 6300 miles on it when I bought it and it cost me just under 8k!

  Glacier White 197 Cup
I no its your money and everything mate but if i was you i would either keep the 172 and save the money, or buy a trophy. Atleast thats a better step up that a normal 182

  Clio 172 mk2
That price is close to Trophy values now so might be worth saving for one.

I think there are a couple for sale on CS at the moment

I only want a 182 cos of the shiney exhausts on the rear!! (joke)

Wouldn't have a trophy, as I don't like the ghey colour.

After driving the 182, I'm coming round to the way of thinking that keeping my car and just putting some speedlines on it and it'll be just as good. I can spend the 2.5k that I was going to spend on ho's and bitches.

£9495 with 26k on the clock .. crist mines got 33k and im selling for £7,900 OVNO its only 6k more ..

  titanium 182,
1, as said there isnt much difference in performance in any of the clio sport's
2, if its at a dealer it wont have super in the tank
3, needs a good spanking to bed it in ;)
4,always buy on condition so dont matter were you buy it from if it all checks out

Just to point out everyone, that I have said I wouldn't pay more than £8,200 for the car form a dealer with a warranty!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

TBH if your current car is reliable and quick it's probably best hanging onto. I have also thought about upgrading to something newer as I own an 02 172 but decided not to as the car has been so good and is more than enough fun for me.

Shame you don't likt the Trophy colour.....such a good little motor:D

I have to disagree about them all being the same/similar performance. In my experience the can vary hugely from one to another. For instance a m8 off here had a 172 with exhaust decat etc and was nowhere near as fast as another friends bog standard 172.

Yeah, car seems to be reliable, ain't going to risk anything by saying it though.

It's had cambelt and that done, going in for new power steering pump soon, and fitting new brakes. All would have to be done to sell it anyway.

Sounds like your going to spend a bit of money on it.....might as well go teh whle hog and do inlets as well:D
