Drove to then end of the street in the valver put foot on brakes - nothing f**k all! the pedal refused to let me push down - Had to use the handbrake to slow me down (thank god i was only doing 15mph!) made all the right abs grumble noises too.

Car stopped removed handbrake and everything was fine?!

did some stop tests up an industrial estate and everything was hunky dorey!

Wheather maybe?

(Note: I do think when of my back discs is grinding a little when you first apply the brakes in a morning..)

my back disks grind as well but i have never had that problem mate, scary sh*t.... especially when my handbrake couldnt stop for sh*t

the grinding doesnt bother me that much - its the fact I had absolutely no stopping power under my foot!

mine grind in reverse if left for a bit.. but its nothing to worry about as its only the surface rust.

they are fine after a few minutes.

Something a little solid that has maybe worked its way down through the vacuum tube or brake solution? Maybe cleared when the vacuum was re-applied by switching off/on the engine....

Dunno. just guessing.

Maybe you had a tin of de-icer or a tortoise stuck under the brake pedal?

My mum used to have that prob after cleaning her polo, it seemed water would get in the brake pads or sommet and the first time you braked you would have no stopping power. Was still under warrenty so took it to the garage and i think the flushed the system through and replaced the pads, but not sure on that one, was several years ago

sounds like a servo problem.check the servo vac pipe and the one way valve on the servo.if thats all ok then possibly a faulty servo.

Arent the braking systems split diaganally though? what are the chances of both servos being faulty !

there is only one servo.the servo assists you when pressing the brake pedal to make it easier to press the pedal/apply more pressure.thats why its hard to press the brake pedal if the servo is faulty(you have no servo assistance so you cant physically apply enough pressure on the pedal to operate the brakes).its the fluid part of the system that is split(although there is also only one master cylinder it operates 2 separate brake circuits.the circuits are in a diagonal setup)

Right this HAS to be looked at - just come of a slip road (uphill) and nothing f**k ALL!

70mph 60mph 50mph...im thinking im dead im so f**king dead - thank god nothing was coming round the roundabout at the top as i was still doing 50mph round the bend - took alot to keep it on the road and not into the verge on the other side...

whats really annoying me though is the fact that i did a 90mph-0mph test only 5 mins eariler (the reason I went on the motorway) and it was totally fine - infact is stopped like a trooper!

Im very very very lucky im not anotherway up in a verge - why does something always happen when your skint?!

how much am I looking at if it is a servo problem?

add to that the cost of towing it because im not toutching it till I know its PERFECT.

a servo would be quite exspensive and not a nice job to do.check the condition of the servo pipe first.

your problem sounds like something in the abs block neil.defo needs putting on a diagnostic tool to check

yeh neil you need a diagnostic tool - my abs light never comes on though - and it works a treat every other time - once had this (similar anyway) on my mums clio - 3 jetwashs later and it stopped it.
