The Apple Watch Thread

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
It's a bit more than that. 10 separate sensors. And for a watch that offers all of that, it's a good price (viewed as a fitness accessory). Not being waterproof makes it a bit pointless though.
I read NIKE bailed on their cheaper sports watches that would do all this... Perhaps they were worried Apple were gonna makes something special? They shouldn't have lost sleep, a nike sports watch wouldnt have been marketed as anything else and at a fraction of the cost..

Apple have over complicated it and many a fan boy will own just because they can...

If I ever changed my mind and buy one, I'll let a cliosport member rape me with a dildo wrapped in Razor wire..

Wtf...

It's an alarm, it keeps your heart rate, it has gps so you know where you ran on your jog....

But what does it do?? That's nothing interesting..

Optical heart rate sensor
3-axis accelerometer/gyro
Gyrometer
GPS
Ambient light sensor
Skin temperature sensor
UV sensor
Capacitive sensor
Galvanic skin response
Microphone

Guided work outs, email/Facebook/Twitter notifications, sleep tracking, Cortana integration (coming soon to iOS), can reply to texts (Windows Phone only atm) and can pay for Starbucks lol... but's still very new to the market, lots more to come. Half the price of the Apple Watch too

I care so little for anything you just listed im just gonna fart and play on my ps4...

Parp!!!!!!

These Apple watches are expensive, you could get a second Tag for the price of the cheapest one, and a proper gold exclusive Rolex for the most expensive version, neither the tag or the rolex will be worthless in 2 years.

Pretty sure fitness regimes existed before the Apple Wertch.
But you can bet every penny that a whole raft of apple-themes classes will spring up in FitBoxes everywhere.
(Or any other gym full of poseurs who seem to confuse exercise with sport).

I mean, FFS, Facebook already has enough posts of people saying "look, I just cycled 10 miles".
Well done, now fuq off and knock one about it in private, no one else cares

And soon you will be able to get a Tag Smart Watch as Tag Heuer have teamed up with Google and Intel to make an android watch.

The fact it doesn't have gps is a let down, I thought the idea of going for a run without your phone would be great, but if you have to have both devices it kind of avoids the point of a 'fitness' watch

  Volvo XC60 T8
After borrowing a garmin gps watch for a 10k run recently, I would like to buy an apple watch, but the lack of built in gps is a bit stupid! Never take my phone as I don't have any way to carry it and don't want to have one of those stupid arm band things!

One advantage the Microsoft Band has there then!

Must admit I'm slightly more impressed with it after watching the video... but I think he hit the nail on the head when he said the problem is it doesn't do anything your phone doesn't.

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
ive seen runners with phones in bands on there arms and wrists...

Iphone-watch...

A truly pointless product at this stage, it's needs to be able to replace the phone for a duration of time, not pair up with it..

Did anyone buy one of these then?

I forgot this morning and logged on tonight and most of them are saying June delivery and the one I want the space grey 42mm is saying July.

Kind of glad as I was teetering on the edge, but didn't really want to spend £950 on one this month, think I might play safe and wait for the mkII?

The Verge (who bum Apple) said if you do buy one, get the cheapest one going... V2/3 is going to be improved a lot, so save your money!

That was my worry, the one I was looking at has a £400 strap, so that would hoping follow forward to the next one, but the space grey I was looking at, the watch and strap are both that colour, so I guess if I wanted to use the strap on the next one I'd need to buy a space grey one again, which is the most expensive one, and one assumes that v2 will be available without a strap for those simply upgrading.

£400 strap. Jesus wept.

The stainless strap I like is £350.

I almost cried when I found that out.

Pair that with the stainless watch and its a £860 total.

That verge review really made me question why I want one though... The guy was complaining that it's not an efficient device for operating on its own.

But I don't want that, I want simple glances of what's happening on my phone with the option to control some features... But as that doesn't scratch the surface of what it does, it's overkill for me.

...but I still want one, which is daft

For me, they're pointless. Had the pebble watch, and once past the novelty stage it's not been used.
They'll be a success, but they'll never, ever be able to offer what a good 'proper' watch offers. And the pricing is absurd.

Watch I want is £600. As much as I "get" apple it's a lot of money to see messages on my wrist.

Is Apple pay in the UK yet?

I literally don't know why anyone would want one of these, completely useless without carrying your phone around so why would you want it? the price is stupid £400 for a stainless strap? £900 all in for the stainless watch? spend the £900 on a tag watch - it will still work and be worth money in 2 years.

As for that review, the people reviewing it get special privileges from apple to review their products first - they will never bad mouth the products or they will have that privilege taken away, wait for an independent review.

You say that but I've seen a summery of reviews from about 7/8 different websites; every single one had something negative to say about it (positive too, though)

How will it never offer what a proper watch will, a proper watch just tells you the time, this will do that and a million other things?

People won't buy one of the these for the investment, it's a different purchase altogether.

It's like comparing buying a 100k car that will lose 60k over 3 years vs buying a classic car that won't lose a lot of money.

Can't really be compared, you either want one or the other.

Also why is the pricing absurd, it's a high quality product, you can go for the cheaper £300 if you want, but the others are a work of art and very well made, the links on the stainless strap take 9 hours to make apparently, that's what you are paying for, this isn't some piece of pretty cheap jewellery.

A proper watch will still work in a few years the apple watch won't it has a shelf life.

The pricing is completely absurd, completely ridiculous, fair play to Apple though they know they have a fan base that can't see past the brand logo and they are playing on it.

dk

But a lot of the cost is in the strap with the expensive ones, which you will be able to reuse on an upgrade, so you'll only have to buy it once.

And if other apple products are to go by, they will hold their value well.

Yes they are expensive, but it's of the highest quality, if you want a cheap one, buy the sport edition, apple certainly don't seem to be having an issue selling them with a lead time of July already.

Watches offer more than that. You can appreciate them as objects. Hence why the lack of accuracy with automatic movements doesn't make them cheaper. Judged purely on functionality, they should be cheaper.

You can't appreciate the apple watch in the same way. It's the ultimate evolution of this

You have to applaud their marketing. It's the most impressive aspect. Build a massive, expensive phone that a large number of people because it's apple, and to be seen using apple. Then sell an expensive add on, that means you have to use the expensive phone, less.

  R5gtt, 182, volvo...
The independent review is awesome, a porno of an advert and at the end they say, they would recommend you buy the cheap one... Seeing as the 99% of the reviews audience would only be interested in the cheaper options anyway, it would make sense.. They're simply planting the seed of interest and it'll grow... They're telling you what you want to hear...

No needs one....

I've always said Apple are the best marketeers on the planet. If they made Apple ice cubes Eskimos everywhere would be wetting themselves.

And just LOL at the stainless strap links taking 9 hours to make, is there a link to that nugget of information? I'd love to read the detailed ins and outs of its production that justify the stupendous pricing.

Pricing of straps makes me baulk when it's Rolex etc. But there's a heritage and process at work that I can understand.

Pricing of Apple straps brings to mind snake oil.

Each to their own. But regardless of the functionality they add, it'll never pull me away from old fashioned watches.

For me, it's a bit like the dsg argument. Yes, it's objectively better. It does more. It gives you more options. But for me, everything it offers is unnecessary and not needed (for me). Difference being I can see the appeal of dsg.

It's another way to pull you into the apple 'lifestyle' where you can wax lyrical about the build quality of what are, essentially, disposable items with a limited lifespan.

Just saw some woman die inside...

She was very interested in the rose gold one, then the guy said "yup, that's the rose gold... Nine thousand pound"

She bit back the pain and smiled through it lol

I quite want one still.

The space grey one will chip like f**k though. The demo one behind the glass was chipped!

LINK BRACELET
Crafted from the same 316L stainless steel alloy as the case, the Link Bracelet has more than 100 components. The machining process is so precise, it takes nearly nine hours to cut the links for a single band. In part that’s because they aren’t simply a uniform size, but subtly increase in width as they approach the case. Once assembled, the links are brushed by hand to ensure that the texture follows the contours of the design. The custom butterfly closure folds neatly within the bracelet. And several links feature a simple release button, so you can add and remove links without any special tools. Available in stainless steel and space black stainless steel.

https://www.apple.com/watch/apple-watch/

the films are worth a watch too (no pun intended), the stainless steel is a work of art, i like the fact that the Aluminium one has the american spelling int he video but Jonny Ive still says it the british way.

The link bracelet is really nice, except it's £800.

Had a play with them at the Trafford Centre and they are tempting, even though I don't need one.

I wear one of these every day, best watch money can buy.
You should get rid of it because your phone tells the time.

And then buy an apple watch so you can get all your messages etc on your phone. Because your phone doesn't already do all that........................
