The Clio's replacement- Evo VIII MR FQ340

Epic purchase! Even if it does get a bit too much - you've ticked a Bucket List option for many people!

It's the mid-range ability that appeals to me the most - overtaking on A-roads, going down a motorway slip-road and of course, being able to carry more speed through corners that you would for most cars.

Evos have their failings - don't get me wrong. But they are genuinely awesome cars to own.

How Will you be using the car? Will it be a weekend toy/ special occasions? I'd imagine anything else would mean it far too costly to run. I think its a great looking car, I think they have aged well, in fact can't believe they are a 10 year old car the VIII.

I was looking at this exact model before this thread started as a potential next car, they do sound quite ruinous but then I've heard that said about the Megane R26 (which i own) I guess its how you treat them. Anyway, Brave, but I salute you.

I do miss the 'evo-buzz'...

Some silly replies on this thread, I'm guessing some down to bitterness.

I've owned a fair few of the evo range and not once did I think, wow this car is seriously heavy, granted the newer VIII+ feel a little less agile than the earlier cars (out the box) but very little modifications can make these extremely capable cars.

Looks a lovely example and as stated above, most would call this a stage 1 so you can just imagine what they are capable of doing around the 500bhp mark but then the cost do increase along with power.

Will keep an eagle eye on this thread as sometimes I do feel like I need one of those Japanese rust buckets sat on the drive.

Luckily ill be using the car as a weekend toy, as I have a van in the week and also me and my mrs share her a1, so its just for pleasure. Wouldnt want it as a daily!

Ordered some cl rc5+ pads for it last night as well as some new brake fluid, Used these in previous cars and loved them

Performance Friction 2 piece discs are also a nice upgrade for the standard brembo calipers. ~£600.

Don't they leave excessive carbon deposits on the discs?

Used them on a lupo gti, Megane r26 and the clio and have always been happy with performance and how long they last. Only pads I've had trouble with deposits on discs are ds2500s

ive been looking at these of late, but not sure i can bring myself to do it.
i mostly use my car on the motorway, do 10-12k miles a year would it bankrupt me.
im a renault tech so not to worried about servicing etc

Personally I think that mileage would cost a fortune in fuel. Plus 3 services at that mileage!
Taking it steady I got 300 miles to 60 quid lol

i do 2 on my megane in that mileage so not all bad.
but the megane does at least 24mpg when pushing on.
but i expect the evo is in single figures or something
yeah its the fuel and anything going wrong worrying me

When pressing on the fuel consumption is laughable.
I previously had an r26. This is much worse on fuel. But then the performance is another level

yeah ill have to think of something else.
my megane is just under 300bhp but ive had it for 5 years now getting a bit board

They are a machine! I owned mine for around 8/10 months, did around 5k miles..... Spent a small fortune on running it! I needed 4 new tires just after I bought it, and discs and pads all round. The discs and pads cost me just short of £600, the tires around 800 (fitted)
Parts are just horrendous in costs!

Is this wilky's old car? Looks lovely though I've seen this one in person and the wheels do look better. I would say the standards are the best though

Fitted some powerflex rear arm bushes as the old ones were worn, also some new track rod ends.
Changed the suspension as well to some MeisterR coilovers as the standard shocks were a bit worn and one had a leak, think this was due to the lowering springs.

Very nice that, £60 quid gets 300 miles? I get less than that in the Clio, but that's with a heavy right foot.

Very nice after my Evo X was looking at 8 and 9 and really wanted the gunmetal but ended up with a red 9 FQ340 running 451bhp. Lovely motor and hard to get anything close for the money.

And my X before the 9

They do like to drink fuel though, getting 80-120miles from £30 in mine.

That 10 looks amazing!

What are the running costs like on these, fuel/servicing/tyres/etc?

Get those coilovers wound down a little man! Not talking "lowz" but that looks a little high? Especially the front. Face down, ass up.

Cheers man, they are amazing cars and i do miss the X just built to refined for a weekend toy. As for costs...

Service every 4,5k and goes like this
* 4,5k £140
* 9k £180
* 13,5k £180-£200
* 18k £260 - £330
* Back to the start again for another 18k
* Major service at 45k (cam belt)

Tyres on mine goodyear £140 a corner been on around 6k about 3/4 worn so far

Fuel around 16-21mpg around town depending on driving, Motorway driving like miss daisy the best i could get was 26mpg.

Parts cost are not that bad lot of traders and companies now doing good deals can get a cam belt change from a specialist for £190 excluded Vat (Every 5years) discs are around £400 front and £200 rear

Rough prices but the killer is the fuel and the modding bug, servicing every 4,5k is a pain in the ass as well.

I love that red one (the 8 or 9?) it looks fantastic!! :approve:

Thank you :) its a 9 FQ340 can tell the difference by the 8 has no rear diffuser and doesn't have the open front grill, 9 has rear diffuser and open front grill and is Mivec engine the 8 is not part from that they are identical to the MR editions.

The Grey looks epic on MR editions.
