The colour of Xenons....

  The Bus and MRT
Just got my car back from Renault, it was in to get a washer bottle and nearside headlight fixed. I'd already replaced the buld so I knew it wasn't that, they said it was the computer that controlled the light and it would be £230 for just the part.

Just looked at the lights and the nearside is now the colour of a normal light while the other one still has the blue tinge to it. Now the cluster still looks like a xenons one (fairly sure they're completely different) so my question is can a normal bulb fit into the xenon clusters or have they screwed me over and replaced it with a normal light fitting, just charging me for the computer anyway?

Cheers

i would be absolutely amazed if they've fitted a normal bulb to the xenon unit as the complete headlight is different. It's more likely that it's a different make of lamp meaning that it's a slightly different colour. Ask them to check the Kelvin rating so you know they're both the same.

Sounds like you have replaced the bulb and obviously the useage is brand new.

They do recommend changing them in pairs (costly!)

but if this is not possible try and use the same manufacturer.

Im assuming the ones on the car where probably Philips bulbs and you have replaced it with an Osram bulb, changing the pack on the lower of the unit will have made no difference to colour.

Philips bulbs have a blue tinge to them,
Osram ones have a whiter finish.

The main colour comes from the Renault Reflector - colour change cant be that drastic?

Did you buy the bulb new or used?

Its very rare that a high quality (Osram, Philips, GE) HID bulb break, but if it does happen it would be a normal thing purchase same brand and model.

It is a normal thing that a replacement bulb of same brand and model will look more yellow.
There is not much to do about it, unless both bulbs are replaced.

The bulbs will get slightly "bluer" over its period of use and should start to match the other bulb.

** Just an idea, if you replaced the bulb, put the old one back in !!

Problem solved ;)

or the new lamp in the otherside headlight to check the colour changes in that too, then atleast you'd know it's the lamp.

Unfortunatly my mechanic has the old bulb and I'm not sure if he binned it after swapping it out. I'm pretty sure the new bulb is osram, I bought it from autobulbsdirect. The old one is 5 years old so maybe it will just take a bit of use before it starts turning blue, never heard of that before though :S
