progress makes me very happy, prior to this and for quite a while prior to last week I was fed up of the sight of the thing again, no progress in a long time, and being super busy in the near future made it feel like it wasn't going anywhere again. But just seeing this has given me quite a boost.

So, more progress again, its low but its progress.
This covers a few weeks work and is only snippets, but there is only so many pictures of welding or engine blocks with masking tape on you can take...
A few weeks back i managed to kidnapped beanie of beaniesport fame, and set him to work on more welding on the shell, its not far off now, only a few tiny more wholes left (the old seat mount points in the centre tunnel).
Whilst Beanie was doing that i was following on behind either with seam sealer, or in some cases filler, the shell is looking pretty good now but just needs tidying up around the edges. The plan is to get the shell prepped as far as possible and to then under seal the rear end (the new flat floor) and also paint the interior. Once that is sorted it will be off to the bodyshop to have the exterior painted.
With this in mind i set doing more work on the shell. The abs lines (and electrics/sensors) have now been removed throughout, the sensors were a bit of a ballache but i eventually got there. Whilst i was at the back end and i had all the brake/hub assembly apart i gave it all a good service and re-assembled. I think i will need to revisit this at some point to look into my camber/caster/toe etc, but think i need to pick @Tony Hunter or @BIGASH brains on that...
but this is how it currently sits....
As mentioned i need to do some more work on the shell, but i have a shopping list to purchase before i can do this, and currently i am not exactly flush... The reason for that is the same reason why plans may have to change again with the progress of this (although i will try not to let it) and that is... My partner and I are buying a house. TBH i can't wait to have my own place, and the great thing is it doesn't need any work at all.... but there is a downside, it has no garage. However the gf is on-board and we will be looking to build a garage asap.... because of this i have been making notes and thinking up ideas...

This could hold things up a tad, but i will have to see how it works logistically. Beanie is on hand again to potentially help and i may be able to store it with him, so we will see. So with a distinct lack of funds currently, and a shopping list to progress on the shell I have decided to tackle the mass of parts that need cleaning and painting, the first being the engine. I have had today off and have all the way through til tuesday off, hopefully by the end of the weekend the engine will be fully painted.
It has been stripped down as much as possible and will also have the cambelt done whilst its all apart. It has been fully cleaned/de-greased and then very precisely masked up. This will be the first of many items as i still have the gearbox, brakes, engine mounts......yada yada yada. but its all stuff that needs to be done.... anyways enough words, now some pics.

Pretty happy with progress and looking forward to working further on it through the next few days... dare i say it should be on the road in 2015....

managed to get almost a full day's work on the engine again today, really happy with how its looking.
Decided to go silver for the block (gearbox will be going silver too) as the engine bay is going to be black, also silver should show any potential leaks (god forbid), and then hammered black for the head and other bolt on covers, was hoping this would come out like crackle black but oh well...
and all sorted...

yerp its nice to get moving again, however it may have to go on pause again with the imminent house purchase and lack of garage.... perhaps the above deadline of 2015 is too short....hmmmm @Gray ???

So, as predicted the car has to take a back seat again, it is a massive shame as this project finally seemed to be getting going again recently but hopefully this will be the last time.
Over the past month, aswell as christmas and new year and all that jazz i have bought and moved into a new house, pretty stoked with it, a period property recently refurbished, walking distance from work and a train station and at a very good price.... made up. The downside... it doesn't have a garage, it does currently have off-street parking to the rear, and rear access to this via a small back lane. So the plan is to build a garage to the rear, the gf is on board so that is half the battle.
We were initially thinking of going for a brick garage and tiled roof to match the house, however we doubt this will be our forever home so its potentially not worth spending the £10k+ to do this, instead we are potentially thinking a timber frame affair, probably about 3.5m x 7.5m so a decent size. (like below).
Because it doesn't have a garage currently, the car needs to be stored elsewhere. I currently rent a garage elsewhere at £50 a month but i can't work there as there is no power/toilet, also £50 a month soon adds up and that could be money towards the new garage. So the car is off to be stored for free in a barn, because of this i am looking at car covers too, need to make sure it doesn't get too tarnished. Everything else has been boxed up accordingly and stored in the loft of the new house...useful. The engine and the gearbox have also been all packed up ready to go into storage.
It is a shame, but once the garage is built (hopefully by the middle of the year) then the car can come back and go together pretty quickly and i can pick up where i left off. That was an epic read!! The ups and downs of this thread I'm surprised you still have it. I two have my projectof nearly 8years (clio Williams) in my garage after house moving and kids and working long hours, I have promised myself this year to get the poor car fixed and get back to some of the best driving roads in Wales and track days. These cars have so much character that there worth keeping and restoring just to get the grin factor back. Good Luck:up:

I know there are people in the same position or worse than me. its weird the journey it can take you on, sometimes a real push forward and loads of positivity can be really closely followed by a downer and wanting to sell all and give up, but i think i have now decided i am in this for the long haul.

So as mentioned previously about the car having to go on hold again, has happened.
There is no way i can pay the mortgage, save up a decent amount monthly (for a garage) and pay to store it.
I am not sure my missus 100% agrees with the build but i think she is 95% there, even with that in mind though she helped arranged this and also her parents have stepped in, without them i would not potentially be able to carry the project on. So with help from my partners father and his landy we moved the car on the weekend from a small garage block in newport pagnell to a barn in the middle of knowhere.
neither myself or my partners dad had ever loaded a car on a trailer so there were a few nerves, but all went on fine, and all the gubbins inside were lashed down for the journey.
All went perfect, no mishaps, well accept for meeting all the traffic in the last 1/4 mile in the back lanes and the landy showering the clio in sh*t... but that was a wash away from sorting, the car was removed, all the bits were stacked inside, the car was tucked away in a corner and covered in a new Halfords cover (seems to do the job).
The eagle eyed will notice the cage is also gone (in storage), this has now been sold in the interest of going full-weld in for when it returns, thats the plan anyways. The idea will be to do this before i bring the car back to the new garage. In the meantime i still have a shed load of parts at home that either need cleaning/painting or tweaking before refitting, so the project may trickle along slight... oh and maybe a couple surprises/treats. We'll see

My mk1 (nearly 7 years in to the build!) will also have nothing done this year thanks to a new (low paid) job and family commitments.
I'm not getting rid though, I'd rather bury it at sea than watch someone finish off my hard work!

So a little surprise/treat... I managed to pick up this bits and bobs.
After selling my original engine loom to Silent_scone (a loom that was a hybrid of original renault and TDF throttle body additions) i needed a loom. A long time ago i trimmed back my original renault loom to what i thought i would need, and was going to re-look at it/make one up when it came to it, but when this one came up i thought this was a better option.
I also agreed on a few other bits that would aid in the change over to this loom (bits that i was thinking about anyways) so it should all come together really nicely... i almost didn't stop there, and nearly took the shell on to.. however funds didn't really permit.
I am now doubled up on a few things such as race batteries, battery cages and will also have some surplus items such as fabricated foot rest plates so i will be aiming to sell those, however that will be a little way off yet.
In other news the style of the building of the garage has been decided upon and Stage 1 and 2 should start in march (foundations and brick up to damp course), however saving for the rest may take a bit longer.... before summer would be nice, but we will see.

As planned, the building of the garage has started. Pretty excited to say the least.
We have gone from a gravelled area with a couple raised beds (with potatoes in), to a gravel area that we could park on. (that was pretty useful)
but now we have cleared the gravel and started excavating for the garage base, after scraping the gravel away we realised it was concrete underneath (wasn't expecting that) so that had to be broken up, some of the paving also had to come up as the garage would come up past the end of that.
We are going to have to dig down a fair way (at the house end) to make sure the ramp up into the garage from the access road isn't too harsh, but we are on dirt now so shouldn't be as hard as the concrete. The garage is a decent size 3m x 6.75m so should fit the car in with some space around it, then all the other standard garage gubbins.
hopefully more progress will be had this weekend when we should be able to clear out more and maybe even lay the concrete (last bit may be a bit optimistic), we'll see

UPDATE:
so in a thread that seems to have turned more into a house project instead (and seems to be moving quicker on that basis) more has been done.
as mentioned in the previous post more progress was indeed made over the following weekends and i am stoked with how its going.
first up more was dug out to get the level of the garage floor down more so once i access it from the street its not too much of a climb (i don't a struggle with the track car). MOT was then dropped in, followed by the cutting and placement of the reinforcement steels.
Damp proofing was put down, the steels pulled back out and then the concrete started pooring, (replacing the steels half way up),
This was left to "go-off" and then the brick courses were set upon, as previously mentioned we are going for 3 courses of brick and then a tiber frame/clad building, this will keep costs down but also the timber out of potential damp.
the eagle-eyed would of spotted the imperfection in the concrete also, in-fact this is a ground-anchor. Whilst we had the opportunity to do it and the supply of a ground-anchor at a good cost we decided to drop it in for added security, happy days.
The bricks were then treated to a nice thick coating of waterproof paint, this will not only protect the garage but satisfy my OCD by matching the waterproof brick course on the house,
and with the 3rd and final brickwork wall down that is how it currently sits, i think the timber stage will happen sooner than first hoped, but we will see how the $$$$ is flowing, i am already well excited and can see where everything is going inside. More exciting posts shortly (with quite a nice surprise)

It turns out that our next door neighbour is an engineer specialising in aluminium products for motorsport, working with a lot of F1 teams machining products such as brackets but also producing heads and forged/flowed stuff. He also decent friends with a few of our friends from the other side of the country (randomly) and also knows quite a few of the people behind various companies in the clio "scene" being an ex-omex guy.
He sounds like someone who is very handy to have next door and is already showing an interest in the project, i am not going to argue, not when he has had quite a helping hand (and also gets to regularly drive) this: 600bhp, and apparently it is pretty scary (coming from someone who has been in quite a few decent builds).
best get finishing the garage and get the car back here.

Its been a while since i updated this thread, summer has pretty much come and gone, and i now have a garage...wahhayyy.
I am pretty pleased with it, its a decent size and it has left us with a surprisingly large amount of space still in the garden. Some pics of the build below:
The nasty shed is gone in the back garden, the floor of the garage is now totally painted and the outer wood has been protected (but may need a few more coats). The garage still needs electrics which i am looking into. I want to get this done before putting the car back in (hopefully this can be pre-christmas) otherwise it would be a ballache, and then maybe will insulate it next year, we will see.
Do have a house roof to fix and a wedding to save for first however, will the car ever be a priority again?

Nar, having a house is expensive, having a misses is expensive, you end up enjoying your house and in my case family (kids) more than any car. Mite just be me but I wouldn't take on another big project and priorities over house and family.
Cut costs, stop being so fussy, get it finished and enjoy it. I made the mistake with my old project, wanted to do more than I could afford. Spending £600 on the fuel system then thinking that could of been spent on the family.

I need to finish this project, i have pretty much all the parts (many of a high-spec, which i was very lucky to get at minimum if not no cost) to finish the project, I will never get chance or be able to afford to do this again. I want to do it once, and properly, and then potentially enjoy it for years to come, trackdays, maybe a championship or hillclimbs when i get older... this is a long term thought. This means it will not take priority over home, family etc, but will be something i can still enjoy

I built My turbo'd ph1 then bought a house, car is just sat under a cover for a while. So I know what its like, but it will be worth it.
