The "Ive taken a pic and I kinda like it" thread

Some really nice shots in here just recently. I got back from a 17 day trip to the US on Wednesday and started going through my photos today.

I was lucky enough to have a drive of this while I was over there:

I also took a trip up to Mount St Helens. Incredible place:

I'll add a few more when I've edited them :)

Like that Scott, a similar shot occurred to me to try when you first posted this thread. A ruined castle on a cliff top here.....

Annoyingly mine won't be as good as yours, bugger should have got off my arse.

Nice Pic Scott, must be stars on the brain as here is one from me from last night.

This is quite possibly the best church I have ever seen. I spotted it on the Googles and had to come and photograph it!

St Matthews Church (Normanton) is protruding out into Rutland Reservoir, Europe's largest manmade lake. When they first built the reservoir they were going to demolish it, but there was an outcry and it was saved.

It now stands bold, guarded by an elevated island.

This picture took 1 hour and 20 minutes to capture and is a picture made up of 160 images all layered into one.

I nearly got hyperthermia getting this shot in -3 degrees (even dressed to the nines in warm gear!) but it was worth it!

Naturally lit by the Moon, ISO 400. Exposure 30s (per image).

Went down the road a little bit for this, only took my 7d and 24/70. Not an ideal setup at all. Gonna come back another day earlier, didnt turn up at the right time. Its shooting into the sunrise and the cathedral appears pretty much as a silhouette, if I turn up earlier I should be able to get a better exposure. Top shot is earlier on surprisingly, before the lights turned off and the clouds floated in.

Gonna try and run a wider angle, like 16/17mm and get some bread to attract the swans in. Could be a nice shot if I can figure it out.

So these are a few interesting pics Ive taken.

Very nice, the bottom one looks like a nuclear explosion.

More info on the middle shot please, where and how etc.

Had an attempt at a long-ish exposure only 10 seconds and only in my back garder as I'd had a beer or two, any advice on how i can improve it?

Not being funny but it's like asking how long a piece of string is.

Depends what you're trying to do...... Composition is a bit naff.. you've missed the top of the tree off and the washing line is crashing the party. Rule of thirds is almost nowhere to be seen. Is it a sunset pic or a night pic or a pic of your fence/tree/house...

See what I mean ?

Yeah I gotcha!

Was a pic in the dark, forgot all about the washing line until i'd edited. Will need to go somewhere better as obviously im limited as to what I can take photos of in the garden! Will have another go somewhere else!

Well the subjects not the most ineteresting and the composition is poor at best.

Ask yourself what you achieved from a long exposure? No movement in the pic or anything that simply switching to a higher iso wouldn't have achieved.

I am not sure if you are trying to do night photography or wanted to capture movement.

The light source on the Clio roof is distracting Scott, looks like it's blown and coming from the building opposite?
