the knocking on acceleration...

Knocking under hard acceleration. Ok I know its been talked about on here before... thing is my car is going in for a service soon... and I know my car has this knocking noise... Ive only ever had it once as I dont make a point of spinning the wheels up... I want to tell the mechanic what is wrong so is it just a case of tightening the engine mount under the battery tray to the right torque? Or is it something a bit more complicated than this??

  Embarrassed to say

Can I also add to this post. Can the engine mount under the battery be tightened by an RAC guy? I only want to take the car in at service intervals and therefore avoid the possiblity of getting more problems.

Finally does anyone know a decent renault dealer within a 150 mile radius of london?

I think the two main culprits are "axle tramp" or a loose engine mount. Mine didnt used to do it, but it does it badly now. Even in 2nd gear if Im giving it a bit of stick.

apparently there have also been reports to do with the heat sheild for the steering rack/manifold being misaligned and catching on the power steering pipes.the noise i think your on about is pretty violent but everybody ive spoken to says theyve had it.the noise ive had sounds like an engine mount knocking but like yourself i dont make a point of spinning the wheels(mines only ever done in first if i boot it when its damp or slippery and the wheels start spinning).leave a post if they find something on the service, cheers

I think that might be responsible for the banging noise when making tight turns at low speeds. Ah, the joys of Renault ownership ;)

Someone told me it was the ESP braking the wheel thats spinning (bit like ABS) but I turn it off most of the time and it still does it in the wet if I nail it.

Well I think you will find most people like myself who have the problem dont have ESP as ESP was only introduced in the later mk2 phase 2 models.

Sure theres been a post or two about this before. I own a 03 plate Cup, and have been told it is the rear ("bone") engine/gearbox mount needing tightened. It could also be a driveshaft knocking on the CV housing.

I am sure Reno must use the same mounts & shafts/CVs on all Clios regardless of performance.

My cup went in for the same problem, renault did some work on it for loose gearbox mounts this seemed to sort the knocking noise
