The Matrix Ultimate Collection on HD-DVD

Well i received the US Ultimate collection today and can confirm that all discs work on my 360 addon without any problems.

And even though the DVD does say its region 1 it works both in the HD addon and the main dvd rom.

Just wish I could experience the sound but i have no surround sound as my bedroom is too small for it!

Got to say they do look amazing in HD but there are flaws, the chase scene in unloaded for instance, is too clean and you can see where they have used animation and blue screen etc because the pic is so good, thats the only thing now, the picture is too good for the effects of older movies.

If you have a HD-DVD player though this is a boxset you have to get! I always held off buying the SD boxset and I am glad now as this is exactly the sort of movie HD was made for!

Got this a couple of weeks back , was a little dissapointed to be honest with the first film which is pretty grainy, and the second one with all the smiths fighting neo, you can notice even more now that its animated. sound is an improvement over standard dvd though.

overall not to bad, but not the best HD Film out.

But your right pretty much right a film that has to be owned in HD.

a lot of people have mentioned the grainy first film on avforums but its like miami vice, i think thats how the first one was made, i certainly didn't notice it much anyway, just wish i had decent sound to enjoy it, i used to use the original dvd as a demo disc for surround sound when i worked at comet back in 1999/2000 time, the lobby scene is the best!

Best HD-DVD I own for picture is either the departed, superman or batman begins but tbh, i try to buy on bluray if its available as i prefer them and my ps3.

ok so reloaded and revolutions were never war and peace but the first was a cinematic classic, special effects and animation at their best!

The second one has its good bits though, that freeway chase is pretty damn good and goes on for ages!

£44.99 from axelmusic for the ultimate.

In hindsight I probably should have gone with the complete collection for £39.99 as all i got extra was the animatrix plus other stuff on DVD with it but for the extra fiver i thought i might as well get the ultimate.

Does this release have DTS-HD soundtrack as well as Dolby True HD 5.1 ?
Though I think R1 has the uncut 1st film as per the SD boxset

i thought True HD is 7.1 not 5.1 no dts hd though

it does however say true hd 5.1 on the box, oh well lol, i run 7.1 but no hdmi av tuner yet. Though if you select the true hd track you will notice an improvement.

Agree on the faults. The main problems being with the new hardware and perks, you can see all the imperfections et al. Very clever stuff, but a bit of a kick in the teeth too.

I love all 3 films, enjoyed the 3rd one a lot and seem to be in the minority on that !
Bet the lobby scene on a 42" @1080p with sound cranked up is awesome
