New monitor setup this weekend.

Yep, QD-OLED is certainly impressive - probably on par with the last 'wow' moment I had with monitors when I tried GSYNC for the first time about 8 years back.

As expected, some of the more recent games look great - but I was equally impressed with some of the older titles. Civ 6 for example looked amazing in 4K with all the graphics maxed out. Looking forward to experimenting more and enjoying the better clarity overall. My older 1440p monitor will be relegated to timing board duties above the racing seat...

I think it depends on the flexibility of the game in question.

I played Company of Heroes 2 from 2013 and Stellaris from 2016 and both natively support 4K from the game options. I did fire up a few other tests and at 1440, there was a black border around the edge - but only on the loading screen. I tend to set everything to Fullscreen rather than mess about Borderless Window and the like - so they auto stretch before making the changes and tbh, look OK.

I do set the UI scaling to 150%, which seems to be the sweet spot without requiring the Hubble Telescope on my shoulder to read the text on the screen.

Yep, glossy for sure. However, it's not mega-reflective where sat in front of some monitors resembles looking in a mirror.

It was £568 from Amazon. Seems to be a very good spec - without heading into the £800+ pricing territory of some high-end Dell screens.

I'd always prefer to have a single, decent monitor, than spreading it out over smaller, multiple ones. For gaming anyway, though for work stuff - I do prefer having Teams on one screen, websites on another, etc.

Blimey, that's fast! Hopefully more studios/publishers follow suit. There's literally no benefit when there are day 1 Hypervisor bypasses or a proper crack anywhere from a day to a month after release.

$30k a month is insane though, I knew it was expensive but Jesus Christ

@dann2707 How's your laptop going? I've ordered the same but the 64gb version and wondering what sort of battery life you get with only the internal gpu on? I see a range from 2-5 hours being said by different people.

Excellent choice mate. I was thinking about this the other night actually and I can't stress how much it's improved my productivity for slicing 3d printing files. It's made me so much faster and so glad I got it even if it was super expensive!

I haven't run it on battery only though and I doubt I ever will, I didn't get it to be wireless in all fairness I got it for portability.

Look forward to trying it out next week! Yeah it will be mostly plugged in for me as well, I didn't realise performance drops so much when running laptops on the battery, the Macbook pro seemingly doesn't have any drop in performance but everything I need it for is only on Windows.

What are you using it for out of interest? I'm going to upgrade the ram to 64gb when I get a minute to sit down and see what I need to order.
Same with the hdd, mines only 1gb with a spare slot so wanted to get a 4gb one to fit at the same time as a "whilst you're there" job.

I said this to my mate and it's such a funny QOL feature as its nothing to do with the internals, but the ability to open the lid with one hand is such a lovely feature

On battery It will just be cad and coding, I'm developing a custom cad gear modeler so I'll need to be aware of the performance drop and possibly running on the internal gpu. It probably won't see a game outside of comparing the performance on one to my desktop.

Yes mine is the 64gb and 2tb drive version, a bit dear at just over 4k but I did the man maths and said its performance will always be more than enough so won't be needing a new one for a long time!
