The Truth Is... CARS ARE GAY!

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
iv had the worst time with my clio, and am in need of venting off...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

went to change timing belt today.....took it all out got ready to put new one on....OH LOOK ITS THE WRONG ONE! nice of the people down at Pat Willims Barnstaple to sell me that and make me do all the extra work for nothing!

i also changed the water pump as the old one was making a noise. turns out new one make same noise, and the whole system it generally being an arse to bleed/refill.

When i do get the cam belt, il probably put it on, go for short drive into nearest renault and either 1 of 2 will happen;

1. Belt comes off - poff there goes my new engine
2. Renualt charge me £200million pounds just to check the tension!

i also almost had a heart attack when putting the old belt back on....i put it on with lines matching up with timing lines on sprokets, then turned it round 1 full turn...AND THE LINES DIDNT MATCH UP! Now in the shitty haynes manual, it says it should or youve done it wrong and fucked up your engine....turns out that THATS WRONG! The lines on the belt wont line up again, its the timing lines in co-ordance with timing marks that match up (wish theyed put that in book).

At least when i started it, it worked 1st time, and timing was ok.....

So on monday....IV GOT TO DO IT AL AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

while im on the subject, does anyone know how to adjust tension without using the renualt tension tool?

laterz (i feel bit better now)

title should be renamed ''clios are gay'' and i'd agree..

i hate mine

untill i knock it down into second and boot it then i kinda like it again.

im looking...im looking.....explain a bit more what im looking for...(i only have 1 tensioner bearing)

I'd agree with the title. They always seem to have something wrong with it or it needs something doing like new tyres, or brakes, or there is a funny noise coming from somewhere, or you've got the strangest feeling it is going to brake down just when you need it most.....

But then I go for a good blast and remember why I love it really :)

just because we love them doesnt mean they are not gay! and as my girlfriend pointed out they are actually all females, so in a way its like they are lesbians! maybe that is why we love them so much?

 I'll try and think of that next time something goes wrong.

  Golf GTI PP Mk7
mine has its moments, right now at about 4500rpm+ im getting a mental scraping noise from the rear leaft hand side sumwhere, i look in the mirror expecting to see sprks flying accross the road but nothing, only at high rpm tho. just had a new clutch so weather or not it needs bedding in or summat remains to be seen.

  850 T5. mmmm Turbo!
I have a really rare bread of clio its called a fixed one. spend the last year chasing faults. now its go go gadget. although the tyres are wearing thier way through the wheel liners but im overlooking that untill they fall out.

You have to do 2 full turns for the lines to line up again

Certainly on my engine tehre are no marks on teh tensioner pully, tehre is a mark on teh camshaft pully and the crankshaft pully, but no tensioner pully, i simpy tnesion it up till i can turn it 90 degrees and then check it deflcets a certain amount when i certain force is applied lol, which means i can blag it or go and buy a spring balance lol

Where in devon are you based?

Im in somerset and can check it out if you want?

But anyway, if the marks were in the right position before you turned the engine and the belt didnt slip when you turned it your fine.

im in south molton. the belt didnt slip, and the engine works fine, so i know i got it lined up right...im just worried about the tension/ how to get it right so it dont come off.

@Lunner; i thought it was 45degrees in either direction? can you explain a bit more? have you ever had any come off? and do you go get them checked after?

TBH if you havent got a guage, a rough guide to set it until youve got a guage. The longest gap between pullies(on the energy lump its at the front) twist the belt, if its more than 90degrees, then it needs to be tighter! But get a guage asap!

i cant aford one! the only one i can find is £150! do you know of any cheaper ones?!

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
i did! maybe im not searching for the right thing? i searched for timing belt tension tester...the only one that came up was a seally one for £150.

Is it a mk1 or mk2 clio??

On the Mk1's its a force of 30N between the water pump and camshaft pully and the deflection shoudl be 6.0mm +- 0.5mm

Different on this engine to others, its till you can twist the belt through 45 degrees rather then 90 degrees on my engine, and it keeps repeating about getting it tensioned with the specialist tool

  AB182, Audi A5 3.0
yeah i got haynes manual, but it dont have the tension in it....im begining to hate that book...really pointless!! does anyone have the renault program? it might say on there...

thanks for help lunner!
